My three year old is losing his fingernails and toenails!! Two fingernails and one toenail (so far) lifting up from the cuticle base and falling off from the root.

The pediatrician said it could be from the HFAM that he had a month ago. Any other mamas experienced this before? If so, did your kids nails grow back? Is there anything that I can do to help this?

It’s painless for my son, but it is really worrying me.

I’ve heard it’s common after HFM but freaky for sure! My kids have lost toenails from injury only but it’s nbd - they’re small and they grow back quickly.

like

Thank you for the support and encouragement! This is a first for us so it’s definitely alarming!

Definitely from the HFM, its apparently a common side effect that can show up weeks after. Happened to my kids, everything grew back just fine.

like

Thanks for the encouragement! I definitely feel a little more peace about it now.

I’ve heard it’s rare to lose nails, but does happen. And yes nails grow back quickly! Give your doctor a ring if you’re concerned no harm in asking.

like

HFM is a nightmare the nails falling off makes it sound like a horror film. Happy to hear it’s not hurting your LO though.

It is definitely from the HFM. My littles caught it when it went around the school. Didn’t happen until after the rash and other symptoms went away. But they started getting loose and eventually fell off. Not all of them but a lot of them.

I was told it was very coming with HFM. It was painless and they grew back very quickly and you can’t tell it ever happened. Was definitely stressful for mama though.

Good luck and hope everyone is feeling better!

Also common* autocorrect got me 😊

like

Super common! Will look a little odd for a short while, but all will grow back normally and you’ll never be able to tell. My son lost all on one hand and one foot, but none on the other hand/foot. Super weird, but no lasting impact.

like

Yay for the “no lasting impact” and I’m so glad that your kid is okay! I’m just glad to hear that it’s common and not some rare form of leprosy (God forbid).

🥺 what's HFM?

like

Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (though it’s a virus)

We had a really bad round of hand foot and mouth last year. My youngest lost 8 nails in total. I lost 3.. Losing the nails was painless - just weird.

like

Oh no, that sucks! I have a friend of mine now dealing with the same issue (hands and feet covered in bumps) and she is NOT a happy camper. Me and my husband didn’t seem to catch it (miraculously) but we’ll see if our nails remain intact over these next few weeks!

This happened to my kids after HFAM. Scared the shit out of me 😂

Yes very common but yet soooo weird. My kids all went through it. No lasting effects.

Omg! When my baby got HFM, my husband actually got it too. Baby was fine but husband lost 3 fingernails!!

So I’ve been with FAANG for 5 years (I’m 30 y/o). I’m pretty comfortable with my situation. Got average grades at a good undergrad university, total comp ~300k. I’m debating Ivy League MBA. I don’t think it’ll benefit me at FAANG, but I’d like to start a company eventually. Worth it?

Not sure what the best path forward is but just got out of a week of in person meetings- did not want to go but was told that it would be a bad look to not go (I operate somewhat outside of my business group) by my mgr and mgr said it was important for us to meet for us to feel more comfortable working together. I then go and mgr avoids me the entire time (after requests to meet and level set on priorities). Do I address head on? It felt physically uncomfortable to be around this person.

Hey ladies. I had a miscarriage July 2021 and my cycle started back up not long after. Then in January it just stopped. It’s been 3 months without my period and not sure what could be causing it (I’m not pregnant). My diet hasn’t changed and neither has my activity. I run marathons but I’ve been doing that for years now and it’s never impacted my period prior. I have an appointment to see my OB in a week but wondering if any of you experienced this.

My friend (35F) recently took a business trip and literally put a binder together with instructions for her husband re: daycare drop off and pick up, what to feed the kids, when to take out the trash and so on. What is a useful, comprehensive but not too long of a book for parenting toddlers?

LO is 16 months old, very sweet and social, at the park every day with other kids with either me or her nanny. Not in day care. Yesterday we had a play date and she slapped another baby on the head. Not hard and did not scare her, but the act of “aggression” took me by surprise and I felt terrible about it. I’d like to be more proactive about toddler psychology, what’s to come and how to react/ teach. TY!
