Sometimes I feel like these kind of posts are here to show off how much your family makes. We get it that your wife is bagging a handsome salary 🙄

likefunny

@KPMG1- I cannot believe people like you exist. OP has been so elaborate and articulate about his situation and seeking help while you are sadly fixated on his wife’s salary. Sheesh. If you can’t add value, don’t make it awful for everyone else on fb.

As someone who got an MBA here, network is important. However, she is already at a post MBA salary range so it won't really help her from a career perspective. There are loads of women networking groups in major cities, and would recommend starting there. Some of them are very strong since women realize the importance of supporting each other. I would also cold reach out to people in roles she is interested in. Those are much better relationships than reaching out to someone random you went to the school with. It's my two cents and may not be fully applicable for the situation. Good luck to her, she seems to be killing it here already :)

Thank you for the advice. She has done well but has not fully explored these groups. I will ask her to start looking for them and start messaging people via LinkedIn.

Ask her to tap into IIM network in US

like

She has but the traction has been limited thus far.

I am an IIMB alum, kinda similar boat (moved here for my husband, PwC sponsored visa, looking to move to industry). Would love to connect with your wife - feels like we are in very similar situations. I agree that IIMs are not as well known here. But there is definitely a significant alumni network here. In the Bay Area there is a Pan IIM alumni network as well as an IIMB alumni network.

Hi PwC2 and everyone here - I hope all of you are doing well and staying safe in the quarantine! I was wondering if you’d be still willing to talk to my wife?

Loss of opportunity of 2 years salary plus mba fees == 500k to invest in Index fund == Millions in 5 years wastage.

like

Definitely true. We did the math with the puts and takes and modeled different scenarios. Easily this will cost us between 300k to 500k in the short term.

Depends on what your Wife wants. She would be fine in consulting or tech without US MBA, as in tech MBA isn’t sought after other than in Amazon and Microsoft. Consulting is all within firm networking. Salary wise, she is in top bracket already; but it’s true that her career is limited without good network in USA. Most of top 20 US bschool students are entrepreneurial with eye on PE, Hedge Funds, Strategy, and Leadership programs of furtune 500. These employers hire from specific school. If your wife has specific goals then she has to evaluate which school will get her the opportunities. Also, note that if she is looking for Sponsorship then 95% of companies won’t even consider for interview.

helpful

True that!

And she frequently thinks the IIM brand name does not have the cache that even a regional school in the US has. She feels she should do another MBA. I think it’s not required. She already makes 150k+ bonus but she thinks long term she will be at a disadvantage. She also wants to quit her job and move to industry but has not been getting any recruiters to bite. Advice?

Also depends on what she wants to do post mba .. if she is trying to ch age careers , then mba may make more sense - but if the plan is to stay in same field (like consulting), it may not help much.. a lot of people do their second mba here btw

Personal reasons. I did MBA in India and was in consulting. Wife moved to US for software eng role on H1, and I needed something to transition geography. I would say US degree makes it easier to get your foot in the door - but you don’t need it per se. I have many friends without US MBA who are doing just as well. And after 3-5 yrs, it doesn’t even matter if/ where you went for your MBA.

Why does she wants to get into debt when she's already having a great job which is a dream for many?

We did talk about this a lot and you are right at this point from a financial sense this will, atleast in the short and medium term, not make financial sense. It’s the long term career trajectory where she wonders if the US MBA will help or not.

Why to blow money doing another MBA ... lots of Indian born CEO from IIT’s and IIM’s are doing good in USA.. Network with people and tap into PAN IIT network
