My wife is pregnant with our second child. She has a good job and health insurance. I went out on my own doing criminal defense so I could help with our first child. Our daughter has been sick a lot. I don’t make as much as wife. Now with second one the cost of daycare will double. Is crazy to run the numbers and think Maybe I shoul be stay home dad? I don’t want give up all the years I have spent on being lawyer. Is there an area of law I could work at nights, weekends, one day a week?

Hello, I just had to vent a little and maybe ask for your opinion. So I’ve been working at my job for four years now and I’ve never gotten a promotion. On top of this, I do extra duties that my coworkers don’t do and struggle with the work load. I feel like I’m being taken advantage of and am not sure what to do. I feel like going to my boss and refusing to continue to do these extra tasks without extra compensation. Am I being a baby about this?

I recently asked for a raise as looking up medical assistant and years of experience in my area and found that I am not at market value for my position and 12 years of experience. I have not asked for one before or ever had any HR issues, write ups, warnings, etc. HR came back stating no to a increase as I am at 108% already per their market value. Hello! This is a long story, so I’ll try to keep it brief. I work for a very small supplement company - it’s myself (marketing/acct mgmt) my coworker (sales), and the owner. My coworker is struggling to complete his tasks/meet his goals, and the owner is coming to me about angry clients. I’m afraid my coworkers inability to complete his duties is somehow being reflected onto me? What’s the most tactful way to have a conversation, either with him or the owner? My coworker brought a puppy to work, who bit my hand. I ended up losing my temper and yelling at them. Now everyone is mad at me for blowing up at work, even though this is something I shouldn't have had to deal with in the first place!

I work at a small, 3 lawyer firm. One of the lawyers is not barred in the state we practice. Because of this, the managing attorney has been having him draft motions and other legal documents and use my name and bar number and having me file them because I will have to appear in court for the matter. Is this normal? I am not provided time to review the materials before I file them so I end up working longer days because I am nervous to file something using my name and bar number.

6th year associate at a small 6 attorney PI/med-mal firm in the Northeast OH. Settled about $1.4M total on the year, fees are about 5x my total compensation. Largely 1-manned these cases, use very little overhead beyond my assistant who I share with a partner. Feeling self-conscious, am I doing alright here??

Thinking that in a few months, I’ll concretely work solely for my own practice full-time. How difficult is it to gain clients (mainly PI and civil lit)? My mentor also offered me to be an off counsel while I’m working at my current job so that I can refer cases for a cut, would there be an ethical issue? FYI my firm does unrelated law to PI and doesn’t forbid doing extra work.
