Many who repatriate are lured by a vibrant startup scene in India that is drawing unprecedented capital from venture and private equity firms and is buoyed by an effervescent market for stocks. But they are also disenchanted with what they perceive as America’s bleak and hopeless immigration landscape, where the wait times for green cards are tortuously long, and the limits on launching startups for newcomers are highly restrictive.

Can’t speak for everyone but I’ll say that for me: I think of BLM and DACA as situations neither of them signed up for. BLM didn’t have a choice if they wanted to be born block and DACA kids didn’t have a say when they were brought here as kids.
I sympathize with H1B however, it was a consciously made decision as an adult while knowing all the facts. I have sympathy but sympathize more with the groups above.

Seriously M1 and A1, chill. You are spending too much time on this thread

How can you even compare struggles against systemic racism with voluntary immigration for a better life? Not fleeing from a war torn country or seeking asylum for some political reasons but immigration for job , better life?
This shows that you still have a long way to educate yourself and your family about racism and BLM.
Also, please educate me why we Indians feel victimized by the same immigration laws that apply to the rest of the world? Granted some other countries have shorter wait times or have treaties with the US. The rest are following the guidelines and getting in line for GC. Why the sense of entitlement?
A1- Millions of families come from different parts of the world, experience US life and go back when it’s time. Why do you feel it’s unfair only to Indian kids? I might be missing something here. Please tell me.

D3 - while you are at it, please also look up the definition of self righteous indignation! Thanks for the laughs 😄
Also, an unsolicited advice to you - since it looks like you have a long way to GC, please do your self a favor and try to develop a more positive approach to this whole thing. This bitterness you seem to carry will make this journey that much worse!

Super random question, how much do you know about work permits for foreigners in India and the process for it?
If I had to guess, not much. People care as much about foreign workers in their country, as you do in yours.
P1: you’re right! We were going crazy with getting a work visa in India for my husband a few years ago. And once you’re there, the trips to the FRRO are not fun. The only respite was that it was a walkable distance from our club so we could go for a drink after the ordeal of waiting in those offices. Lol

Blacks have history of slavery where people were brought in against their will and then kept in atrocious conditions.
H1B is a person who made a choice to come here willingly and is getting paid and living a comfortable life.
How is that even a comparison??

I am so sorry but you could have done research and told your wife why that is the case. I understand a lot of people aren’t aware of the history of this country but it’s never a bad time to know these things.
I am not sure what we are comparing here. Privileged H1B folks who are owed nothing by US to black citizens who had to go through years of slavery and racism and still aren’t treated as equals
I think it is important to consider that those venting out about the unfair GC process are not those that came to US on H1B last week and demanding GC as their birth right.
In fact these people have:
1. Educated through F1 or worked hard in India to qualify for a job in US
2. Survived the H1 lottery
3. Worked hard enough as a temporary worker to convince their employer that they are worth being permanent employee.
4. The employer then legally petitioned the government and than eventually got a green card approved.
5. Despite all of that still have to deal with the dynamics of being a temporary worker which is further aggravated by: Denial of continuity in temporary status despite of having an approved permanent status.

A1 go back brother . Nobody brought us in chains. All your multiple criteria are by someone’s choice. Even thinking H1 has it bad is ridiculous . H1b are the same people who brag in India when looking for arranged marriages they have H1B. We have it really good here and should be grateful
Talking about ‘Conscious Choice’
H1B - those who came here a decade ago or so, didn’t sign up for 150 year wait times as those wait times went on a significant increase year after year. Now when it has come to a peak of 150 years people are already consciously avoiding US and moving out in numbers to other countries like Canada and Australia. And people with approved GC are forced to remain on H1 due to the country caps in place that combined with rejections that are forcefully pushing people out even after having a GC approved and living here legally for years.
DACA - Those parents also made a conscious decision of breaking the law by entering the US illegally, knowing there would be consequences and their kids are suffering the consequences of their parents action and now seeking status in US like it is their right. I agree they claim to be fleeing violence but those can’t be true for all and is in fact one the reason why people get declined for asylum as they fail to prove severe and immediate threats back home.

Well said!!
Only two out of three communities you mentioned can claim to be victims of systematic injustice
Agree with Black community. Can DACA claim to be victims of systematic injustice?
HIB is a privilege not right!!!!!

If desis have contributed and are contributing so much to the prosperity of America, why can’t they do the same back home so no one has to come to US and beg for a green card?
Somebody wise once told me - brain drain is better than a brain in the drain
Too subservient as a community.
Too many cultural dependencies.

People seem to have misunderstood the question. OP is asking why Indian h1b holders don't protest the way daca/BLM do - in large numbers. OP, some Indians do like recently in Michigan and Chicago. But many don't bother either because they're fine with status quo, have given up hope of things ever changing or because they see it as a problem that others should fight to change while they go on with their daily lives (historic attitude of Indians)
Chief
We should protest that we can’t get gc of this country in 3 years haha. There is literally nothing to protest, GC is not a right. I have never seen anywhere people protesting in groups about not getting citizenship , and I am very sure there are way worse groups of people impacted or countries other than H1B when it comes to that. It’s a privilege and we should accept rather than think of it being owed to us

Actually the case needs to be made for Indian kids whose parents are on H1b and will age out.
They dont know any other world outside of the USA and just like the people protected under DACA special provisions need to be made so they dont get kicked out when it comes time for them to go to college or join the workforce. It would be ridiculous for them to get back to F1 or H1B line just like their parents did.
Rising Star
H1b adults waiting in a 150 year line are concerned about the wellbeing of their children. https://www.am22tech.com/h4-kids-age-out-lawsuit/
Because we do not have a point
H1B Indians are not in as bad a situation as other two groups and we have too much to lose. We can’t risk our jobs and status and get ourselves deported by getting to the streets and protesting.
Our situation is definitely bad but not bad enough to protest by risking everything.
We can discuss in these forums but we all know nothing is going to happen because of that.
The lawmakers def see the issue and I think they will get together to solve it at some point. The question is when. Our issue is just stuck in the partisan politics at this point.
Yeah my thoughts exactly
My god guys, misplace my charger cable for a day and the entire context of my post became an H1b vs BLM and DACA post, my question was rather won’t H1bs stand up and demand better from these greedy white bosses who make us work 24X7 for peanuts and play with our future while at the same time laying off local workers (Blacks and Hispanics included).

So now changing definition of unique instead of GC thing. LoL
We all know that h1b is corrupt system
