My wife setup an introductory meeting with a T2 strategy firm's managing partner. She doesn't work with him but has a friend who does, which is how this was setup. I'm trying to transition from implementation (10 years) to strategy so I really want to impress. What talking points and questions would you all recommend?

Talk about your project management skills, teams you’ve led, projects that you’ve developed on time

like

PM and client management skills are directly transferable

Be confident and talk yourself up. Bring up metrics like $100M+ cost savings, number of strategic initiatives you lead, how large your teams were, etc. Also come up with a list of good questions and be personable most importantly, make some small talk at the start of the call. Your soft skills and personality will be really important as well!

helpful

Also any SME experience you have — that can help even if you want to be a generalist (e.g. you’ve spent the bulk of your career in and around healthcare)

That's a good point. I work in a very specific industry so I'll display my expertise in the subject.

Dont call your background implementation. Find another word... maybe corporate transformation or something. When asked about your experience, prioritize senior level client engagement, and the impact created for the client org. More impact the better. Create short bullet points around 1) what was the issue or situation, 2) what you did, and 3) what happened or what was the impact, for your major experience

Oh and... dumb down your language so that any average Joe can understand what your work included. Test with your wife or a friend, someone who is truly clueless about your work. Imagine you were explaining your work to a college student
