Hell’s Kitchen. People hate but it’s awesome
If you only go in once a week, try Upper East Side, Astoria or even LIC. Your budget will get you so much more space and easy easy commute into Grand Central
LIC is not LES / LIC might actually have better bang for buck!

Live where you want/can. Don’t base it on a 1x a week commute.
What is you switch jobs, will you move to be close to that location?

Walking distance close? Or short subway ride close?

Yeah that budget is kind of impossible for walking distance. Maybe Murray Hill. Someone mentioned Hell’s Kitchen (which could be a 20-25 walk depending on where).
But there are so many subway lines that stop there. So you have lots of options for an easy commute.

Hell’s Kitchen is definitely your best option, but you also might get lucky and find something in Kips Bay or Turtle Bay if you keep a close watch on listings.
If you're only going in once a week, you can pretty much live anywhere. NJ, CT. You could even live in Boston or Philly if you want
