Nanny during covid time took cash payments. How do we claim it on FSA. This is my first year on fsa and I learned i have to have paper trail to prove the payments. Nanny can sign on receipt but won't share ssn. What are my options. Would I be able to claim. I had to let her go when I learned paper requirement.

If you pay your nanny under the table, then you can’t use your FSA money, because you’re not withholding taxes. Your options are to legitimize your nanny as an employee, and use FSA funds (which it sounds like she’s opposed to), or keep paying her cash and use the FSA funds for something else.

@CD1 Her rate will absolutely go up, and a lot of nannies prefer cash/no paper trail, so if OP is hoping to just easily switch, current nanny may leave

You should go and read up on the FSA rules in the documents on Deloittenet. I'm fairly sure paying a nanny will not qualify for FSA use unless you went through an agency and they qualify as a licensed child care provider. The IRS sets the rules on the childcare FSA use and it's not as simple as "paper trail" as they have to have a tax ID, invoice you, etc. to qualify as an "approved" expense. Even if you get signed papers from the nanny, you may have issues getting the servicer the Firm uses to reimburse.

You may be better off using some of the COVID childcare reimbursement that allows you to get $100/day up to a limited number of days for anyone. Downside is that you have to submit that in the week the expense was incurred.

It doesn’t have to be through an agency, but you do have to set her up on payroll and withhold taxes, etc.

I paid my nanny in cash but had her social security number and filed household employer tax in order to get fsa reimbursement

like

Yes, she was aware of the arrangement and I issued her a w-2.

Probably won’t since you’re paying under the table.

To use it they have claim your payment on taxes. They need to provide you with either a SSN or pin.

Currently an audit senior at a middle market firm, just completed my third busy season. Recently received an offer to be an associate at a boutique FS Advisory firm, with a 25% pay increase and 20% bonus on top of base salary (HCOL). What pay increase do people normally leave for? All in comp with bonus is nice, however, I feel like the base may be a little low ($85k). My raise from associate to senior was minimal last year due to COVID, so just wanted to see what I should be expecting. Thanks.

Need advice. Applied & got job I’m currently in during covid, was desperate since I got laid off from my previous job and was looking for anything. Probably could’ve negotiated my salary much higher, but since it was covid (summer las year) I was uncertain. It’s been a year now and I feel like I’m WAY overqualified for my salary (& title) but HR says I need to wait until next promo cycle (March) to be eligible for a promotion. Do I have any leeway here? Or are rules, rules…

Horrible anxiety about considering a new job....
I was one of the big firm stealth layoffs in covid and joined a boutique firm in Sept. They came sort of close to matching my salary but I moved to SoCal and have an opportunity to jump back in to big law and get $100k raise. The people at the small firm are so nice, but hours are nuts and if I’m going to work this much, I might as well get paid more, right? Is it too soon? How do you tell them when the managing partner took you under his wing?
