I’m curious what she does with the toddler if she’s sitting all day
Your nanny has to fit your lifestyle. Had a similar issue with our nanny. Kids would be climbing the walls but she wouldn’t go out in the backyard or take them for a walk. I would frame it as - we have found Baby is soothed best when you bounce and walk. Also set measurable desired outcomes - we would like two walks around the block a day. Something tangible/quantifiable that you can see if it is happening or not. If she is unwilling to adapt, then yes it’s time to move on.
I wouldn’t make comments about her weight or link that to her behavior when speaking to her but you can certainly explain that you expect her to be engaged and attentive to the baby’s needs which means bouncing, walking, activity, etc.
Does she have previous experience as a nanny with infants? If she can’t soothe a baby or if she thinks whatever worked for another baby will be formulaic for all babies, you may need to find a new nanny.
We’ve tried to figure out what the problem is and honestly we think it’s because the nanny is quite overweight and therefore wants to park herself on the couch all day. And then like a typical baby our infant wants whoever is holding her to be up bouncing and rocking and walking around. Can I tell my nanny she needs to get off her butt or is that offensive?
I would absolutely expect your nanny to be up and about all day, especially for a toddler. I wouldn’t link it the weight either. But I would definitely be giving her some guidance or an activity plan, or explaining expectations, something along those lines
