NAPO, the largest Police Union in the United States (245,000 members) strongly endorsing President Trump is astounding. They endorsed Dems in both 2008 and 2012. They did not outright endorse, but did publicly support Clinton in 16.

I mean, he has a point. Why should we worry about Russia’s special operation to liberate Ukraine - a proud country that has never accused me of being racist btw - when millions of MS-13 and Antifa are slipping through the southern border every day?

Of course they support trump, the man has no accountability and Biden has explicitly said that he would address the toxic culture prevalent in most police units.
“It is not surprising to anyone with the slightest ability to use critical thinking that the largest police union would endorse a candidate who does not believe in taking responsibility for ones actions.”

They’ve got no other choice—the other party wants to defund and abolish them

Not in 2008.. not in 2012.. not in 2016..

Of course they endorse Trump, the police have shown how the whole force is full of corrupt amoral monsters. It makes sense that when revealed they decide to support the amoral monster.

Well, I am a minority, from a poor neighborhood. While my life is easy now, growing up the police always treated me as an enemy. So no change there.
While I do believe there are good cops, they are the minority and the way the force is set up the good cops are punished and systemically stepped on.
So on a day to day basis it is a much safer proposition to assume all cops are bad.

“We want to defund and abolish the police!”
“Wtf why don’t you want to vote for me any more?”

Yeah pretty simple choice for them
Liberals - fuck 12, acab
Also liberals - why aren’t police voting for us?
Sad state of affairs for the party that once represented labor and has jumped to identity
Those horrible police - NYC had over 2000 murders in 1990 in 2019 about 300 - in 2020 I’m sure there will be far more - who are the victims - mostly African Americans - so defunding they police may get rid of a few bad folks but how many thousands will suffer -
Broken Glass theory has been debunked.
Don’t get me wrong, I liked it on paper, but unfortunately it didn’t work.
To clarify, I don’t know what the solution is. I do know that things need to change, and based on the reading I have done on the “defund police” I’ve come to one concrete conclusion:
“Defund the Police” is quite possibly the worst and most misleading catchphrase. As somebody who worked as a policy director for 2 different GOP senators, the naming and message are so far apart.
94% of Americans believe some degree of police reform is necessary (29% complete overhaul, 40% major changes, 25% minor changes. Source: https://apnews.com/ffaa4bc564afcf4a90b02f455d8fdf03)
One of the most commonly supported tenants of “defund the police” is to reallocate funding towards new services or programs aimed at reducing what police are responsible for and investing in areas that have been shown to reduce instances of crime. Police should not be asked to deal with things like mentally disturbed individuals or homelessness, they are not trained to do so.
Abolishing the police and being lawless is a non starter. But we are consultants, we have all seen that sometimes it makes more sense to start from scratch but more often than not, even significant/ drastic changes make more sense than starting over. But regardless of approach, change is always resisted and the key to limiting ruffled feathers is to have a clear message. “Defund the police” is not it.

They endorse whoever is the incumbent. This isn’t revolutionary. And for the most part have been fairly conservative. The endorsed Bush and McCain in 2000 2004 and in 2008. Decline to endorse Barack Obama or Matin or me in 2012.
