Hiring Manager: “...we’re looking to make a fast decision...” Cut to 4wks later: 7 interviews, presentation round, and now a potential “personality check” with client. FML
Dear MBB fishes, requesting your immediate guidance on data engineering practice. I currently have to pick one between FAANG vs MBB. Same base but 25K RSU difference. Please help me with your insights! Moving from industry in Midwest region.
If [said company] asks to put you "on hold" for the month of December...but you found a better offer, do you: -have to follow through with said gig -communicate this with them if they haven't followed up yet (but added you to new slack channels) (asking because I no longer wish to work with them) Thanks for the advice.
How big is the jump from xDR to AE? Currently crushing quota finishing my 1st year as BDR in enterprise software (12mo+ cycles with avg deal $500k) Want to make the business case for promotion before end of 2nd year. I was a management consultant before and feel confident interacting with senior level DM’s but would be fresh to outside sales, negotiation, closing prospects, etc. How can I prepare for the jump and set myself up for success as an AE?
Trying to decide between two portfolio ops roles, both in the Bay Area: Small-ish VC firm, ~135k base + 35k bonus Medium PE firm, ~115k base + 115k bonus Which would you choose? I’m leaning towards the PE firm bc it’s more hands-on, faster learning curve, and higher TC, but the VC role seems to have a better WLB and generally sounds cooler (getting exposed to VC vs continuing in the corporate world). What do you think?
How would you suggest creating a culture of upward feedback among a team or small practice group?
For people who have switched from Big4/Tier 2 consulting firms to MBB, what's the reason you made that switch? Also, how are you finding consulting at MBB better than your earlier consulting gigs? What according to you, is the selling point for the tier 1 consulting firms?
Question. I have an older friend who was newly contracted through an off brand firm who lost their contract for the NCS. They are offering him a transfer to the winner of the contract, but for a lesser salary (they said he's too expensive). They said he could also instead transfer to an independent contractor, for a 30-35% increase in salary, but no benefits or paid leave etc. Hourly salary, but much higher wage as a trade off. He's nearing retirement and doesn't care as much about benefits.
Hey fishies, I have a friend who is interested in becoming a consultant but he’s taken an interesting path, would love your advice on any good angles he could take for applying/ types of roles. He has a bachelors in science (chemistry maybe?) from H/Y/P and after undergrad he took a less traditional route and was working as an instructor for things like tennis, piano, snowboarding, etc.. He’s a really smart, personable person who I think would be great in consulting. (Continued)
IT Sourcing vs. Program Marketing as exits post-consulting? Tired of consulting. Very tired. Have same YOE in both functions (marketing and sourcing). Curious as to which exit you all think is better? Defining better as least stressful and with numerous opportunities, regardless of geographic location. Thanks!
Hi, Hope you are doing fantastic! As a Senior IT PMO, I have been engaging with Recruiters and Project Managers in a search for new position. I’ve 8 years of demonstrated experience in Project Management and I have been pursuing MBA in IT project management as well. I welcome any opportunities or suggestions you might have for me. Thank you for your time.
This might be the MOST important and ONLY post of any true value I post this year, so please, let me know why you might agree or disagree: With all the awakening regarding employment and compensation in our business (remote, unlimited personal time off, parental leave, equal pay, etc, etc..) wouldn’t the most amazing thing we could do be to create PENSIONS? Our parents’ generation had them. Knowing there’s going to be money there when we can’t sling ads anymore could relieve so much stress now.
Should I make the move? I'm a senior in advisory at Deloitte within their GPS practice. I'm having some bites on switching to commercial as I have experience in Investment Management, Cloud, and Healthcare. (I'm an analytics resource for GPS). But I suspect this process to be long. I'm making $105 with a ~10% bonus. I have an offer to move for 125k + ~10% bonus at a tier 3 boutique with better work life balance. Am I dumb to leave Deloitte? I've only been at Deloitte for less than a year.
Do you guys also have to do “community” work for your respective firms? And how much weight does it hold when it comes to reviews/promotion conversations?
I’ve finally woken up and realized that I missed out on love and having my own family in exchange for fighting my way out of poverty and “making it” to McK. Upon reflection it wasn’t worth it.
Got assigned a project that's usually overseen by a manager today to do myself. I'm an associate going into my third year. Think we're short on managers?
My wife just accepted a role at Facebook. What are some of the good employee discounts they offer? We moving into a new house next month.
