Need a gut check here. Got an offer from Deloitte for $7k (~9%) more than I currently make at the same consultant level. Doesn’t seem reasonable to make that jump for no title increase and not a huge salary increase, right?

Agree with others - unless it is your life’s wish to work at Deloitte and this gets you in the door, not worth the upheaval for that much

Only if this opens up different opportunities for you (eg industry/projects/etc). Other than that - heck no

dont take it

You may even get a 10%+ increase at Guidehouse by staying. Taking this offer is losing money

Left Deloitte but can say that bonuses even during promo year were not high at C/SC level. Maybe 3-6%

Absolutely not

OP I have a different opinion here. I had the same offer and same situation as you and I decided to take Deloitte and I don’t regret it (yet lol). The difference between the two are so vast. I’ve learned more here just in trainings alone than I did in 2 years at GH. As you know, GH’s training infrastructure is hot flaming trash. Onboarding is trash, they barely teach you how to be a consultant. At least for me bc I started consulting at GH and that’s all I knew (was in industry prior to). The resources here are way better too. As far as network, I got to know way more people at Deloitte virtually in the first two weeks than I did at GH in person for a year pre CoVid, and in total honestly. I’ve gotten to network with people who are doing work that I like and I’m on a project that I’m interested in and just exploring another industry. Idk about your experience at GH but I wasn’t even allowed to network with people outside of my account, it was super frowned upon by my leadership. I say take it. GH is trash, they just pay well.

G1 is sadly mostly spot on. To me, the infrastructure, learning and development, and networking opportunities are the biggest differences between GH and Deloitte. Now for some people, those three factors aren’t important. For others, they are. I fell more in the latter category. I got into consulting for the learning opportunities, diverse and challenging projects, and opportunity to work with smart and driven coworkers. Sadly none of those happened for me at GH. I was consistently a top performer, was promoted, yet always felt like I was being held back. I no longer feel that way since I left. OP - I would just think what is most important to you career development wise. GH is a great company for certain people, and not a great company for others. Everyone’s answer will differ but it’s important to understand what you’re looking for.

like

This is especially not worth it if you have a good network and opportunity for promotion at D. I see people leaving for laterals and even 30-40% raises (which are great!) but then realize they have to rebuild their networks, are behind their peers on promotion. The vast majority end up behind their peers that continued to accelerate within whatever firm they started in. 30% when you're in the first few years of your career is a blip relative to your total earning potential as long as you move up as fast as possible.

Damn it! I just turned down a Deloitte Strategy because they want to bring me in as senior consultant. 1st year manager in tech implementation.

Sounds like we have a consensus, thanks guys just need affirmation on what I was thinking!

We gotchu OP. Good luck with the search!

I will only leave GH for at least 30% increase. I'm at 100k now and I'm getting offers in the 130k to 150k. Honestly, I won't move to Deloitte - the culture is worse.

At your level, you shouldn’t be considering less than a 20% bump to change firms or career path - there’s too much personal brand risk, even if you’ve only been around for a bit.

I used to work at Deloitte and came to GH for a (>50%) salary jump. Look GH infrastructure is way inferior, but Deloitte will probably pay you worse in the next few years. Plus GH has been way more amenable to me negotiating even higher pay hikes/bonuses. If you factor bonus potential at Deloitte, I would guess you may be actually taking a net loss. There is no negotiation at Deloitte. Stay at GH until you get an offer that’s >30% hike or not worth it IMO.

Your take home difference per paycheck will hardly be noticeable and depending on insurance plans, may not even change. Like others have said, unless you’re in terrible situation it’s not worth having to start from scratch on your network.
