I’m being offered a job in plaintiff side employment law litigation from direct services non profit. (Dream) however I’m worried about training & learning curve especially for a first gen,only POC.im leaning to take it but would like resources to help me learn (beyond using guides /secondary sources) I
That sounds like a great reason to lateral. Your firm is stuck in the past.
Are you seeing actual missed opportunities? Or just feeling like you stick out as the only POC? I’ve been in a similar situation before, but they all treated me well and I learned so much
Not a bad reason to lateral at all. I did it and am not working at a firm that’s more diverse than any other place I’ve worked. Just make sure you’re not going somewhere that’ll have the same issues!

How many years have you been practicing? How long have you been at the firm? Are you doing the type of work that you want to do? Are your skills improving? Are you getting paid enough? Are you dealing with demoralizing BS? Are you watching people get treated better than you because they vibe better with the white folks?
I would focus on enhancing your skills and increase your profile in the community. Think about moving around year 5.
