Need a personal laptop that is fairly inexpensive. Only need it for basic stuff like shopping, searching the web, etc. I would prefer an HP (no macs please!) that is touchscreen and light weight. Suggestions?

I just got the HP pavilion x360 14t. I've only had it for a week but I'm pretty happy with it. I bought directly from HP but IBM has discounts with HP (I assume similar across other large corps). I ended up paying a little under $600 and that includes a couple upgrades (screen and color). The only thing is it doesn't have a lot of storage compared to others (256 gb ssd) but that's not a problem for me.

Woops, typo corrected if but it's a little under $600.

The only thing HP makes that's worth the money is brown sauce

Surface go. Thank me later.

I'll be joining the consulting world very soon and am thinking about getting a new personal credit card. My meal expenses are per diem so I'm thinking about the AmEx Gold card as it has 4x points on dining. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on personal cards for consultants and how to go about my corporate card as well! TIA

Curious if any MBB folks can shed light on current hiring environment. Undergrad campus hire at Deloitte S&O recently laid off in the COVID cost cutting wave after 2 years. Disappointed, but grateful for some freedom to explore here! Primarily looking at industry/corp strat jobs since consulting in general has been hit so hard, but considering applying to Big 3. Have heard from a few MBB friends that new hires with offers aren’t starting till end of year. Any chance of a lateral move right now?

Is it wrong to not want a promotion? Ive been told I’m on track for one soon but I still have sooo much to learn at this level and I don’t feel ready to move up. I am, in fact, terrified of the next step and the responsibilities that come with it. Has anyone turned down a promotion and regretted it? Been glad about it?

Hey TSE fam, just successfully completed the sign to close phase of an acquisition. Great relationship built with senior manager as well as client. Client said he is now considering requesting me for the rest of the year for the post close integration. What are the pros and cons of staying? Will it be a positive or negative for when I’m up for promotion to manager next year? Thanks for your advice!

Advice needed! Have just been asked to Freelance with W2 form. Without any benefits. Is this even possible? Would I lose my eligibility for Unemployment insurance once the gig ends? I was laid off from my full time agency job 2 months ago and have already freelanced as self employed on an LLC since. Seems like they’re being tight and taking advantage of the current climate.

My company is bleeding talent! I took up a PM role 3 months ago at a not-so-hot smaller tech company. When I joined there were 8 PMs. Today, 6 of those have quit and 3 of those are in the past 3 weeks. We’ve hired 3 more since I joined. I haven’t built deep enough relationships here to probe about their reasons for leaving, but I’m really concerned. The company is undergoing many changing priorities and acquisitions in play which definitely could be why. What would you do in my shoes?
