$850 of spend excluding taxes & airport fees etc, realistically it’s $1-1.1k depending on the airports you fly in/out of.
When you're booking the flight on united.com, you can click "show accruals" (or something like that) in the flight list to see exactly how many PQPs you'll get for that leg.
It's possible to book international flights with United partners, where the rules for calculating PQP are distance-based rather than revenue-based. This can often let you get PQPs for less than a dollar out-of-pocket. But you're still going to be spending 500+ unless you find a far better deal than I've ever found.
If you travel quite a bit, especially internationally, 1k is well worth it. I used to travel internationally a lot and always got upgraded from Business to First once I was 1k.
The comments here are insightful. United status has always been a puzzle for me.
Definitely not worth it. Don’t do it. Too many 1ks out there to start with 😅
All depends on your planned travel next year. If traveling domestic US between United hubs, 1k status doesn’t count for much. International travel might make it worthwhile
1K is hilariously overrated. Source: me.
