I’d do the nanny share. Baby is so young the one on one attention will be great for them for right now! Easier to be on the schedule you select, feeding how you want, whatever…. Socialization can come in many ways later, whether getting on a waitlist now and switch if you don’t like nanny share or covid “goes away”, or though play dates and story times etc.

I would do the nanny share. The risk is pretty high and if you are wfh, it would just be you, the nanny and the baby I think? I’m going with the same. I didn’t know if I wanted to do daycare vs nanny bc of the cost, but I don’t think socializing really matters at this age and I would be more worried about his health. I also live in an area where there is a lot of unvaccinated population and I didn’t want to take the risk when he’s so small. My baby is 3 months for reference and I get back to work next month!

I love daycare personally. Drop them off and don’t give it another thought. I manage enough people at work I don’t want to do the same at home and my house is too cramped for more bodies here while I WFH. Very personal decision though! I like the idea of a share for socialization and hopefully some time at their house vs yours.

This is why I wanted daycare. But this daycare (despite the nice caregivers) rubs me the wrong way with the communication. The other few daycares in the area have long waitlists!

Given current situation and how the director responded -nanny share gives the socialization along with safety. Make sure you add an at Will clause in the contract so you can get back to day care once things better That’s what we are doing now

We just told the nanny we would start (no contract signed). But now I feel like what do I do? Nanny is more than daycare. I also feel like while my baby likes the daycare (she loves the main teacher) the communication with the director is off. I emailed her a week ago about vaccines and she was vague… another family talked to her too and she was unclear. I think I’m looking for confirmation here that the nanny share is a good idea but just want everyone’s take. FWIW the other family’s older kid will be in preschool with fully vaccinated staff and masks. Husband wants daycare - I think he thinks it is easier.

I think you’re making the right move, only based on the lack of direct communication. We love nannies for our kids until age 2 and then start sending them to daycare. You can always switch back to a daycare when you find a better one or feel better about the covid precautions.

I love daycare. Nannies can be dangerous- I would never trust someone alone with a kid who can’t advocate for themselves. At daycare you have multiple adults around. I am not trusting enough for a nanny, not worth the risk.

I’ve done all combos. Nanny just for your family is easiest, followed by daycare. Nanny share can be a PITA. Nanny in general brings along extra work (you have to manage them) but you also can sometimes get the added help of laundry, tidying up the house, not having to prep bottles/pump, keeping baby on their schedule easier. Daycare perks are socialization, you drop them off and don’t need to do anything until you pick them back up, you don’t have to manage anyone really. Nanny share kinda sucked for us, personally. In your shoes, I’d stay in daycare until you can get into a daycare you like better. Unvaccinated teacher doesn’t equal actively infected teacher. If they are taking the proper precautions and doing health screenings, I think that is very helpful in mitigating potential covid spread.

Does anyone here in a health system have insurance that covers fertility assistance or get paid parental leave? Really like my position at my hospital but as we start to plan a family - I'm nervous about the cost. Just looking around regionally - it looks like most health systems don't cover this.

My ex wife with whom I share custody of my 14 year old daughter has a live-in boyfriend who recently lost his mother and has developed a drinking problem. For the second week in a row I’ve had to pick up my daughter from their apartment because they were fighting and screaming at each other. Last time (1:30 AM Friday morning) he had physically assaulted my ex wife and then threatened to kill himself. I thought surely my ex wife would have kicked him out at least and better yet gotten a contd.

Anyone know of someone trying to break into BigLaw after failing the bar? I mentor a young woman who just found out she failed late last week. Her 1L grades were low (improved 2L yr) so missed out on OCI. She has a pretty good reason for failing the bar as she had a newborn baby in late June. Any advice? Do you think focusing on the bar then trying to get a job with a regional firm and lateraling is the only way? Or do you think she could get a job right out of gate? She wants to do corporate.

It was definitely something he had not thought about but could see the clear reasoning behind it and was willing to go to HR to ask if it was possible.

I would love any suggestions for either tall clothes and/or shoes. Even a place to buy custom shoes at this point - I am desperate! I really do not understand my company's attendance policy. No sick or personal time and each time you have unscheduled PTO it's considered an occurence. Its super restrictive and during a pandemic you risk people coming to work sick spreading what could potentially be Covid. I just don't get it. I understand they are running a business but it just shows you really don't care about your employees at all but yet you want them to care about this company and the work being done here.

My SM keeps commenting on how I need to have a kid soon given my age. I've already said I don't know if I want them when she initially pried but since then she's 'joked' at least once a week about how I need to get married and start popping them out. I didn't care initially but now it's just getting obnoxious. I suspect she's projecting since she wants to have a second kid herself and is experiencing challenges but enough is enough lady! How do I go about addressing it with her?
