Not overly helpful but for anyone else who reads this you should clear your vacation plans or make them known when you’re accepting the offer, easier to align on these things then. Hard to give advice without knowing more about this exact situation
My friend only just booked the ticket last week, so this was way after accepting the offer, but still before I joined the company. I was just under the assumption that since it was 4th of July week, it would have been slow.
It’s enough of a heads up that your team should accommodate it. It’s only for a week, it shouldn’t be too big of a deal. Talk to the partner about it, but honestly if you were on my team, we would just make due for the week, even if we were busy. Just expect that things will be really busy when you get back and try to do anything you can ahead of time to help out!
Yes, that's the best I can hope for I guess.

Talk to the partner. I tell my staff "no" but I don't really have any authority. The staff go to the partner and then I'm told to "make it work" to accommodate the vacation.
I totally understand that. I'll talk to my parents to see if there's another option. Thanks.
I had a similar situation two times. The first time I went on my trip and it was held over my head at review time and the second time I was able to get my group to change dates and then of course the implementation date was moved and it didn’t matter after all. I think this is enough notice to make it clear you have prior obligations and won’t be available to work during that time
If they hold it over your head that’s ridiculous and just a bad team IMO. They should be happy to have help with the market right now!! You, your family, and your friends are first and work is not the most important thing in life!!
I let HR/recruiter know about my week long vacation before accepting the position. I get the impression that my actual manager didn’t care, but HR was making a big deal about it since I won’t have the PTO accrued. I told them I was visiting family and it was a non negotiable for me and that if need be I’d be happy to take the week as unpaid or otherwise pay back the PTO once I accrued it. I think it’s important to set boundaries early on, especially where work/life balance is concerned.
Supposed to handle that during interviews so no confusion. I may have the same issue soon.
