Need advice - make 75k right now but found a watch for 1500. Do I get it? Have maxed my 401k this year and haven’t spent too much on other things

Is this the watch you’re dreaming of or do you just like it and really want it because of the sale? I applaud your hesitation to splurge on luxury items, but I would also advise you to think long and hard about the watch itself. Have you seen it irl? Tried it on? Financially speaking, yes this might be a bit of a splurge, but it seams within your means, unless you have some serious debt elsewhere. Just make sure you do it because you really want it.

Longines is made by Swatch group. Within the Swatch group portfolio Longines is positioned one step above Tissot and Hamilton and one step below Omega. Brands like Longines are almost always sold at a steep discount from MSRP; 25% off is fairly common. Used watches rarely hold their value and many can lose half their MSRP when you walk out the door with them. I've provided you with the facts so you can make an informed decision. If you enjoy the watch I than it will hopefully be worth it to you.

Go for it if you have hit your savings goals. Why are you hesitating?

If you have the cash laying around without having to buy in credit, do it :).

That’s a cool watch. Longines make some nice watches, but as D1 said, they are often available at a discount, $1500 is probably just a bit below what you can get it for any time. I’d check if you can buy preowned also to save on that depreciation. But it is a nice watch, and if you really like it then go for it. You don’t make enough to start collecting multiple luxury pieces, but that watch is a nice start. Versatile and high quality, plus Longines is a respected name with a long history. You can do way worse on a first luxury watch.

I’d say you’re safe to spend the $1,500, but I’d make sure this is the watch you really want. The design is known as a sector dial (JLC makes a beautiful one of these, as does Patek). While I like the style and it’s a nice watch, I think I’d personally have trouble with the hour hand being so long. If you’re just tempted from the sale price, I’d remain patient; but if you really love it in the flesh, don’t hesitate. Here’s the JLC just for comparison:

It seems that management doesn’t always understand that employee engagement is tied to many things such as work/life balance, benefits, workload, etc. Any ideas on how to present this type of info to management? We have already done an engagement survey and delivered results but there is lack of action planning which is also not heavily backed up by leadership. Any ideas on how to deliver this message so it makes an impact?

I’m sure this won’t come across well but I have to say it… my husband and I make good money (about $600k combined) and are grateful for it but these Biden tax increases are going to kill us. The truly rich don’t get hit hard meanwhile it sucks to be an upper middle class family. No matter how much I make somehow my take home seems to keep going down.

Starting a new job in September. If the new company matches 100% of 401k up to 5%, does that mean a max of 5% of the salary I’ll make between September and December, or would it be 5% of my full salary, so that if i contribute at 20% or so, I can get 5% of the full, yearly salary in just those 4 months? Thank you!
