I'm dying watching Schitt's Creek.
My internet went out. I'm not mad.
Should we (the girls) apply makeup to work?
Anyone from PWC willing to refer me? Thanks

Never meet your heroes.
You’re interns so you’re going to get the worst briefs. It’s just how it seems to happen. Make the most of them but more importantly ask more senior teams if they need help with anything. Don’t go a day without seeking more work. That’s how you get on briefs not meant for interns. As for the pitch, that sucks. Influencer heavy ideas suck and don’t take it personally your CD went that direction. Won’t always shake out like that.
How much longer is your internship? Since you guys or gals are so low on the totem pole, I would stick it out and pull them aside and ask if there's anything you could be doing differently to have more success. The good news is, internships are usually about 6 months Max and usually less, so you can get a new one soon regardless.
It is indeed 4 more months. We’ll try asking it and talking. Hope something changes.
I moved for one person, didn't end well. Doesn't have to be so for you. It can suck if you don't work well with everybody else, try and mix with the other creatives. Don't stop trying, you moved for this person. Keeping at it, present proactive thoughts around brands in the agency to him. Also, as backup, look elsewhere, this time for more than one person you admire.
I’m curious about why you had so much admiration for this CD that working under him made you ignore other options and move to another country, but now you don’t seem to trust his judgment anymore. As someone else said in this thread, in this business you win some, you lose many. I think it’s fine to ask for more coaching, to go to the CD and ask where your ideas were lacking. Not as a complaint, but out of a desire to get better. But maybe recognize that where you only saw “some influencer stuff” from another team, the guy whose history and judgment you admired to begin with saw more potential, originality, feasibility, strategic thinking, or any number of reasons to choose that idea over yours. Finding out what it was instead of thinking you should be somewhere else is how you’ll grow.
It is just that the work he has made in the past years is so strongly in contrast with the ideas and thoughts he chooses to go with now. Desire to get better is all we have and what even made us move to a totally different country. That is how committed we are to this. Thanks for the comment though, some useful points!
A CD can be a really busy and focused person. If you want to learn from someone and be remembered when your internship ends try and find a senior team or an ACD to show work to as well as the CD. They will have more time and, generally, more inclination to help you because not many people will be coming to them for advice - but they’ll have tons of it. Also when it comes to offering you guys a job (if you want one), the CD/ECD/MD will be asking people about you and a good word from another team can carry a lot of weight.
You might have come for the CD, but you can stay for everyone else
This choice was based on the fact that we were always thinking that the person you are working with is more important than an agency name etc. We feel totally excluded from everything. When we show him work all we get is: “Hmm. That’s a bit hard.” or “I don’t feel it...”
We were put on a pitch with another team, the other team had ideas all based on influencers and stuff. We were really trying to come up with big ideas and had some interesting ones.
After that we heard from an account person that the CD had decided to go with another idea and we were not working on the pitch anymore. He didn’t even drop by to tell us.
We only have 1 brief we are working on, which is really not exciting while other creatives get all the exciting and challenging ones. Feels like we are not trusted.
How to explain this in the correct way? Is it even possible to change this?
Thank you all for the advice. Very useful!
It could also be that he had nothing to do with the work you admire besides putting his name on it. I've worked with ecds and ccos who I felt the same way about only to work with them and see their judgment was sorely lacking.
