“I sincerely appreciate your offer but after much consideration, I’ve come to the difficult conclusion that moving forward with this opportunity is not the right decision for me at this time.”
You're a consultant, I think you can figure it out. If not, Google examples.
You can also say personal reasons without going into detail. I really appreciate the opportunity, liked the team, etc. Regretfully I must turn down the offer due to unforseable personal reasons. They won't push, but will probably appreciate knowing your reason for declining.
Man or woman up and call them. Email is unprofessional in this case given the time invested by both sides. You don’t have to provide a detailed reason - just thank them for the opportunity to learn more about the company and the role and at this time you are staying put or taking another offer.
Try putting yourself in their shoes. What would you want to recieve? A call? An email? Saying what?
It’s more so that the reason for my declining is complicated and is 90% based on personal reasons and has nothing to do with the company itself. I’d prefer not to share those reasons so I feel like I need to tread carefully
