Need advice/assistance: I am over the income limit to directly contribute to a Roth IRA. My employer offers an automatic after tax “in plan conversion” from my 401k to Roth IRA. Am I able to use this to get around the Roth contribution limit? Is this the same thing as the Roth backdoor conversion or am I getting things mixed up?

That’s the mega back door, which has a 58k contribution limit regardless of income. The IRA limit is a separate 6k so you can do both. Since you’re over the income limit, you’ll have to do a back door (different from mega back door) contribution. You contribute the 6k to a traditional IRA then roll it over to a Roth IRA.

Perfect, understand completely now thank you!

Does doing mega backdoor through employer get you out of the prorata issues you incur if you have traditional IRA balances?

Yes, mega back door doesn’t have any pro rata issues but it depends on your employer allowing that option. The normal back door does have a pro rata rule if you have trad IRA balances but since it’s a separate (additional) contribution limit, it could be worth it anyways.

Currently maxed Roth 401k, Roth IRA, HSA, and ESPP at 23 YO, should I consider an after-tax conversion? I’ve read about back-door Roths but I’m still far below the income limit as an analyst. Definitely looking into early-ish retirement, should I just invest the rest in a regular brokerage account until I reach the income limit? Am I even allowed to do a conversion? Any advice is helpful :)

Curious if anyone has experienced companies that require COVID Vaccine if hired? I was told today that it is required for a company, and this isn't a healthcare organization. I have no issues with the vaccine, however I thought about it as a Talent Acquisition Manager. I'm not sure I'm comfortable relaying to candidates that it is a requirement since it's a personal choice. Any feedback? Just curious what is happening in the market.

For those recently laid off, what are you doing for healthcare coverage now? Just got my COBRA offer/extension letter and was floored to see the cost. So far I’ve only looked at covered California at the suggestion of a friend but at a glance the plans don’t seem substantially better - the monthly savings in premium on those plans is essentially offset by the increased deductible. Do I just suck it up and keep what I had through COBRA and pray I get a job soon? Any suggestions on ways to save?

Would love some advice - during Covid, I transitioned to a smaller firm that had some great things to offer but has almost zero experience dealing with attorney maternity leave. They agreed to create a policy during the hiring process, and the administrator did come talk to me at some point after my hire to say they had settled on a policy and some paid leave, which is great, but they never verified in writing and the paid period was pretty short (maybe a month or 6 weeks).
