Totally depends. If you're already running projects and doing all the M work, it might not be a big leap. Also titling might be different; I'm a M at Deloitte, and I came from another firm as M, but I was doing work more comparable to Deloitte SM at the last place, so it was a super smooth transition.
That said, if you're not doing much stretch work as SC, it could be a real challenge. Some firms are good about integrating new hires, while others leave you little ramp up time, which is not a recipe for success.
At my last firm, I was accountable for financial performance of my accounts and for practice development. I was not paid extra for sales metrics, but I was expected to own client relationships, identify opportunities, write statements of work, and staff my projects, and I managed 4+ projects at a time.
Some of that overlaps - at D I need to staff my projects (with support) and do practice development, but the rest of the things I listed are more SM work than M work. Honestly it's super good to have support from above for a lot of this stuff.

In the exact same spot. There will be major ups and downs but I believe in us consultants to figure it out.
