You’re going to a swamp. I mean, I love New Orleans but not between May and September.

I thought about that. O well. Bonding time, I guess...

Linen but not too casual.

like

Linen pants can be popular depending on the crowd, but unless you’re willing to iron them and you’ll be standing a lot they get super wrinkled and look really bad.

Some of the linen blends will be lightweight and (hopefully) not look like you slept in them (though if you stay out in Bourbon St. it may be an accurate look). My husband was able to get some nice lightweight blend pants from Banana Republic for his last conference in New Orleans (not law).

What firm?

Cotton or linen shorts. Penny loafers. Button down.

Also bring business casual, and sneakers and t shirts, but you should be fine. Too damn hot to be too formal. You don’t want formal loafers, you want something more casual.

T-shirt and cotton/linen shorts, comfortable walking shoes is order of the day for bourbon street/outdoor activities. If you have some shorts that are more athlesiure with a mesh or air flow type fabric, those are good too.

For indoor/evening events, button down shirt (undershirt too if you’re one to sweat or are self conscious of sweat marks; the humidity is insane). Nice jeans or business casual pants.

The road and sidewalks are quite rough. I recommend NOT wearing loafers or sandals, flip flops etc. Supportive shoes will make your life all the better.

I am a sweaty person and stole this trick from Hollywood: buy sticky under arm pads and stick them to your shirt where your arm pits are. They will absorb all the sweat and no nasty pit stains! And you can just dispose of them after :)

Mind blown!

Our firm is going to NOLA, they picked NOLA, not sure what they want to do. They do have great Gumbo.

Seersucker is the best for NOLA. Check out Sid Mashburn and Haspel for options

Hi there!

I’m trying to get my grandmother (81yrs old) travel medical insurance for a trip to the US, where I live. She’s in good health and lives in South Africa. I can only find travel insurance options for those who are aged 80 or below.

Does anyone know of any companies that offer senior travel/medical insurance (81+) or have any other recommendations? Or does she just come without travel insurance?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

I set up my boss to take on a client that I planned to steal from her. She thought she was using me but I was using her. When she asked me to prepare statements of work, I drafted it with my resume in mind. When she asked me to set pricing, I priced it at my desired salary. When she pawned the work off to me, I nonchalantly took point. Then slowly and surely, I made myself indispensable to the client. I can’t wait to tell her that the foundation’s offer is priced above her salary. Checkmate.

I once worked with a partner who I think is brilliant and anytime I implicitly ask him to be my mentor (I.e. we should stay in touch, I’m sure I will have questions so I hope it is okay if I reach out. etc), he ghosts me but he does serve as a reference for me anytime I ask and I’ve successfully got a couple of jobs so I’m sure he’s saying good things. Any tips on how to go about building this relationship? Should I just find someone else? TIA

I’m a mentor for a summer associate who I believe could be a great lawyer here (V100, small market if that matters). However, it is apparent he has no understanding of technology (redlines, word, excel). Based on his background, I believe it’s due to a lack of access. Would you ever recommend to your firm that he be given a course to catch up? Should I try and get him training on my own? Stay out of it? I dont want to overstep but believe this would help him as this puts him way behind his peers

Here's a hypo I need help with: A and B are both on deed. prior to 2020, B conveyed his interest to C. Then, sometime after 2020, both A and B tried to convey their interest to D (presumably an attempt to convey the remaining 1/2 interest left, but not how it reads or is recorded). Clearly, B did not have any interest left to convey since he gave it to C already. Is the conveyance by A to D still effective, even if B was included in the deed and has no interest left?

Do you think the legal industry will ever move away from the billable hour? I don’t see its advantages for clients or firms in the current environment.
We have the data to accurately predict the cost of litigation, and a flat fee would help settlement agreements move along because that cost is already known.

My firm requires 200 hours bills per month, now they have been cracking down on us to bill 50 per week. I’m so exhausted. I absolutely hate this place. Insurance defense wouldn’t be so bad if it weren’t for these insane requirements. We also have to do update charts by weekly for every single one of our cases. All for a measly $85k while the firm makes thousands and thousands per week from each attorney. You only get a bonus for meeting the billable requirement, only to end up with about $2200.
