Yeah, give it time. You’ll get there eventually.
The most basic tip to becoming a great writer is reading. Seriously. Read the news daily.
I also recommend this book

Thank you for the book recommendation! I will order it now! And thank you for the advice about reading, I’m a pretty avid reader and always have been, but legal writing seems to be so unique. My legal writing tends be very rigid, but these senior associates write so fluid and tell a story with their briefs I love reading their product and am hoping I can write like that one day
Point Made is also a great book. You’ll get there!

Thanks so much!
They got good because senior associates rewrote their writing for years.
It will come. We are all a work in progress - study the edits.
I also consistently read briefs of the best writers in the state where I practice. Anytime I see one of these attorney’s names on a published opinion, I pull the brief.
Like others have said, read lots of really good briefs and a few terrible ones. You’ll begin to notice what makes good briefs persuasive and what makes other briefs terrible.
And it’s also 10000% easier to edit writing than it is to draft from scratch.
I agree that you shouldn’t worry about it. But for different reasons. Eventually you’ll be rewriting briefs for juniors but your writing will hardly have changed at all. “Good writing” to 90% of people, including lawyers, means “writes like me.”

Interesting point. I think you are right in that many changes are stylistic, but I also find that when my work is re-written, the updated work product is a lot more impactful. Also, it makes me feel like shit when my stuff is completely rewritten haha I don’t like the feeling that I’m creating even more work for the senior associates/ partners
Focus on organization and transitions. I take forever to settle on how I structure and organize my points. But it's really important to think carefully about structure and constantly evaluate how you are organizing your ideas. When I finally land on the right order things really "click" and it will flow. That's what will take it to the next level.
Seriously don’t worry about it - it sounds extremely lame but it really *will* come, and all those skills which seem out of reach now will be yours before you know it. Just a question of experience (and taking the time of carefully reviewing rewritten / reviewed work). Good luck and hang in there!!
Can someone please send me these briefs so I can read them haha

Thank you for the advice and encouragement everyone! I appreciate it
