Need some advice r.e. expensing. Just moved from agency to sales in tech. We are expected to front our own money for client dinners meetings travel etc. I realize this isn’t abnormal. I was irresponsible in my early 20s and have been working to repair credit. I don’t have a credit card with more than a $500 limit. How do I approach this/ being approved for company card with my boss? I’m so embarrassed. Please no shame

I disagree and think it is abnormal. I’ve worked at several tech companies in sales roles and always had a corp card.

Your personal finances are nobody’s business, you don’t need to share anything other than asking for a corporate card (if available).

Curious to how other folks at your organization handle this?

like

Agree. This sounds odd to me.

For an NYSE listed company to not utilize corporate cards is insane to me…. I can’t imagine the liabilities their compliance, tax, and payroll teams are dealing with. Regarding how to approach any respectable company already has that procedure in place, my company has corporate secured cards w/ 5k limits (they check credit to give limits per score or determine you need a secured card). I would just be honest with your manager about the situation and see what procedure is, life happens and if they make you feel bad about it then you’ll know what the rest of your time there will be

like

This is unusual to me. We were never asked to pay using our own money for client dinners/meetings. The company must shoulder the expenses.

like

Is it a startup?

A startup could be saas too. If it’s a large company you should absolutely expect a corporate card. It it’s a startup maybe not

Kind of a weird question, but if you have status at hotels is there any way you could finagle either free or discounted multi-day parking for hotels near an airport? Don't want to have to rely on ride sharing from my home if there is a stronger likelihood of rides near a hotel airport parking space. I am speculating that it still turns out cheaper than hotel parking. This is not for work so I wouldn't be able to expense it.

Last week, I've voluntarily put in some overtime to craft an amazing project I am working on. For the love of the project, and because I feel it will be good for my career. While talking with some people a few days later, someone told me: "By doing that, you are helping to maintain a system where hard work and occasional overtime is expected of everyone." It led to an insane lecture about my work ethic. Is that person right? Should I feel guilty about doing that?

Hi Fishes,

I received an offer (28 Lakhs + 3.9 Lakhs incentive) from Novartis for Sr Project Manager yesterday. This was just 13.6% more than my current earnings as Project Manager. I've given the reasons why I deserve at least 30% to HR. In response to that, HR has sent 2nd offer i.e. 29 Lakhs + 4 Lakhs incentive + 50k sign-on bonus. The 2nd offer is just 18.2% higher than my current earnings. Need your suggestion, if I could still negotiate with HR to finalize deal by asking for 25% hike?

Potential new client. Lives in a condo where there is a huge problem of people leaving bulk trash items along the road/sidewalk for weeks and months and the city and condo management company does not clean them up for a long time. Idk, I'm scared.

Hi fishes, I am having an overall experience of 1.9 years and I am currently holding 3 offers. Deloitte India - 10.5 LPA,
PwC - 8.4 fixed,
Tiger Analytics -10 fixed.

Which offer I need to take, I just have two days left in my notice period.

Does anyone aware what's the main difference between Deloitte India and Deloitte USI.

Was is it a good move to reject Pwc over Deloitte India only based on offer amount??
