Need some career advice from the tech community! I recently got a job offer from AWS as an Associate Account Executive. It's definitely a bump in overall pay, but possibly a decrease from a benefits standpoint. How is it like working in AWS Sales? What's the culture? Is there opportunity to grow? And would it be perceived as an upgrade on my resume to go from Intel to AWS? My end goal is to be in Seattle, but have really loved the Intel culture despite company challenges. What do y'all think?

Honestly, as a current AWS employee, if you like where you are and the culture- stay. AWS is a firehose that doesn’t stop.

like

No complaints of culture at Intel other than more urgency is needed to become leaders. Is the culture really that bad at AWS? What if it's a good manager, would that sway any of you?

like

I don't think it would be seen as an upgrade, although possibly a kind of lateral move. Life at AWS can get hectic. If you're happy at Intel, I wouldn't be in a big hurry to let it go quite yet.

like

I think WLB would not be as great over there, so it really depends on how much time and effort you are willing to put into the position.

like

I have heard mixed reviews of WLB at Amazon and some pretty awful things about culture.

like

Have also heard mixed reviews - think it depends on team and location, Seattle might be better. Yes, I think it's a step up from Intel, granted, imo, not enough to sacrifice WLB.

like

honestly, I gotta agree...I have not heard great things about working at Amazon. I think if you like Intel, stick with it - there will be other opps for Seattle other than Amazon

like

I had them as clients when I worked at an ad agency and they were hands down the worst people I’ve ever encountered

Having made the shift I can clearly see why people don't like AWS or Amazon culture. There are some really smart people but unfortunately there are some that are nightmare to work. The culture is top down and the people/practice managers are treated better than individual/talented people.

I'm at a small agency in NYC and the health benefits for a family are almost prohibitively expensive, ~1,500/mo with a high deductible.
