Need some career advice .

Y.O.E -1
CTC-7 LPA

I have been working as tester both manual and automatic for last 1 year.
I am hating it. Client gave opportunity to become developer but manager refused to let me go unless I spend 18 months in current role.
I want to become developer and reach above 20LPA asap. I am moderately good in DSA, learning Spring and Microservice.
I am not getting any calls because of 90 days notice period and testing background. How do I get out of this black hole?

Fake out your experience as a developer. Have a discussion with a developer friend to understand his project and other details.

like

I misunderstood. U r right

And who said with a automation cum manual profile you cannot reach 20 lpa and a developer can only get that?

like

Running behind numbers will fetch you nothing.

likehelpful

You have to create a nexus event to get out the loop..that will happen when you Resign asap.

like

Tbh, I am too scared to resign without offer. I don't have necessary experience as developer and the market doesn't look very optimistic either. Need the money to survive too.

like

A wise decision
1. look for opportunities outside your organization coz your manager is not thinking about your career development plan. You have already completed 1 year remaining 6 months he he could have planned for smooth transition.
2. Secondly as an automation tester you have far better career then a developer. You are very close to functionality of an application. Which makes you pro in choosing 3 career
- You can become full time QA
- Business Analyst
- A functional guy make good manger, mostly he went through the stages that you have been through.

like

Well thought response

If you want to become a developer then why did you go for Testing initially.
If you are working on automation testing you can still achieve the number you are running for.
I personally do not suggest you to fake anything and take risk
Just complete 18 months as per your manager and after that switch in the development role as you got this opportunity in the same organisation.
Your package is not bad many 1 year experience developers don't have the same package.
So don't hurry and risk your career 🙂

like

Only 1 year right?

You could potentially fit into any role. The lack of choice and forced first skillset in your first company/project usually decides whole career for many. Unless you are too stubborn and really want to do something about it.

I was stuck in the same black hole for 2 years in the starting of my career and trust me mine was literally black ( night shifts ).
But I did not resign without an offer and only studied hard for 1 month and got an offer from my very first interview for a developer role.( guess I got lucky too)

The point is, It can be done. Be patient, keep improving, showcase your dev experience more on resume to make sure it crosses the "recruiter wall". Keep giving interviews and wait. No need to take unnecessary risks by resigning, unless you are 100% confident on your skills.

like

Don't rush, your have just entered industry. Understand how things work across the departments and role.

Developer may get better paid, but not in all cases. There are huge opportunities for Automation which gets paid equally. So try spending time to gain skills, and then decide.

like

You can try for companies like Infosys, Accenture which have the same 90 days notice period, these guys give offer. I did the same even I was working in Capgemini, I got an interview from one of these I said will resign just after you release the offer. You can get offer from them, then resign n search for a product-based company for which you wanted to work. You can get good counter. But will suggest if you have hunger to get good package then don't go for the service based

like

Dude just 5 yr experience one of my friend earns 18 LPA as QA AUTOMATION... 😸

like

As some people have already commented, you should fake your profile as that of a developer and start looking outside.
When I joined my current company from college, I was initially on the bench for almost a year, then I was put in a manual testing role.
That project ended in 7 months, and somehow after preparing on my own I got into a development project in the same company.
Tech stack was Java+ Spring Boot.
After a year of working on the project, I wanted to switch but no company was ready to accept me with 90 days np.
So I took a risk and resigned and now have 3 offers, with 2 that are triple my current package.
I'd suggest taking a risk.

like

There are other MNC with similar kind of notice period of 90 days, clear the interview of the likes of Accenture or TCS and resign , now you have 3 month to fetch yourself a better opportunity, worked for me.

like

With 90days notice period you will get scheduled for interview for 1company out of 100,yeah it's really tough with this notice period, just take the risk because sucess not comes from comfort jone

like

Is it 18 months from now or from beginning

like

If it is from beginning just try to get some idea on development in the next 6 months and then u can ask ur manager

like

Learn skills that you wanted to work with, and add it to your resume as experience of 6-8 months.

like

since you mentioned YOE as 1 year, you can just fake it as development experience. Mention everywhere that your notice period is 15-30 days and start giving interviews in small companies/C2H positions, once you have gained some confidence just resign from the current job and look for better opportunities. Also when you have your exit interview you should mention the reason of exit that you were not able to meet your technical aspirations of being a developer and your manager didn't release you.

like

Since you don't have real experience as a developer I suggest not to resign as it creates a huge amount of pressure and very soon you will feel like withdrawing your resignation. Instead explain to your client about your situation and become a developer after 6 months assuming you already spent 1 year. Meanwhile prepare. Remember there will not be many calls for 1 year experience so better wait and switch the project, work for a year and then switch.

Is there a general expectation that a Partner has an MBA?

I doubt it's required at most firms but I'm a pretty senior staff and when I speak with Partners, they seem to speak with an MBA level of business knowledge which extends past their technical skillset.

I realize that's what makes them good Partners but it makes me wonder if I realistically need to get an MBA to keep growing and hit Partner.

Hello, I had a technical recruiter from Facebook reach out to me twice for a program management lead opportunity. She feels I have strong experience and am a good fit.

Could you share any information I should be aware of in-terms of levels, compensation, stocks, etc?

What kind of Masters program would you recommend for someone hoping to make it into a senior leadership/executive role in Comms/PR? I have over 6 yrs of experience in Comms in public/private sector. However, I haven't had any formal education in Comms/Journalism which I have felt always put me at a disadvantage. My question is, is there an advantage of doing a Masters to improve my chances of getting into a leadership role? If so, would an MBA be better than a Masters in PR/Comms?
