I wouldn't raise it. As I recall, the background check just confirms your employment history, criminal record, disciplinary record, etc. It will all (hopefully) be blank, except for this one section. And you can address it if asked. You haven't misrepresented anything.
I say this because a friend once brought up how much he owed while negotiating his salary and they almost withdrew the offer because of it.
Ok awesome, that’s what I figured. No judgments or anything against me and certainly no criminal record. I appreciate the thoughtful feedback everyone.
Or should I get in front of this matter and let HR know my circumstances? Obviously a big law salary will make paying down my debts manageable so this shouldn’t be an issue after several months
Yeab definitely not bring it up. It is not relevant since you can pay the debt with the new salary and it is an uncomfortable topic for the interviewer
As long as you don’t have any major delinquencies, judgments, or bankruptcies, you’ll be fine. Even if you do, you’ll probably still be fine.
