Need some help regarding sales quotas. Can management increase your quota solely because you’re doing well and exceeding it? I’ve been here less than a year, and have since established my capabilities with sales, and my numbers now put me in at number 3 highest selling sales rep of the entire company. My quota has now been changed 3 times since being here, with the latest increase being a jump of 2x what my previous quota was, just because I had a good month. Is this normal/fair?

First: congratulations on your achievements!! If there's any way you can capture those quantitative results you mentioned, do it asap before it changes - you'll want to show that in future interviews.
Second: it's complete BS, and yes companies can change your quotas whenever they want to. Now, is the company just changing yours or the entire sales force? Sorry this is happening to you...how long have you been there and how many times have they changed your quota?

Can they? Yes. Should they? That's a whole different ball game. Personally, I'd have one foot out the door. It's one thing if they initially set the bar too low (as you were new and maybe they didn't realize how well you'd perform). But to continuously increase it just because you're excelling? Lame. I'd be looking to bring my talent elsewhere if I were you.

Yes they will increase it next fiscal usually if you’re exceeding it

That's an incredible achievement, especially considering the short period you've been with your company. But that's a TON of quota adjustments in that short period, too. Technically speaking, your managers can bump your quota whenever they feel like it. I know it's irritating but I don't think there's much you can do. Maybe shift your perspective and look at it as a challenge - seems like you might need that since you're crushing it the way you are, anyways.

That's amazing! Sorry, it's how corporate works. But I think you can bring this up to management, and discuss it with them if you're struggling with the pace they assigned you to.

In my decades of experience, I have come to accept that quota is never fair and it is out of my control. Otherwise, I go crazy with the unexplainable of it all - people will get easy quotas time and time again, while you may get crazy high asks again and again. It is the name of the game, unfortunately. As you grow your book of business, you should expect to be asked to grow more and more every quarter. That is your job. When it gets tricky is when you see others not being given the same quotas. Best to just keep your head down. Clearly, you are a great salesperson and will do well!

I have been with my company 20+ years. This past year they did a sales market restructure - directions from new upper management. The restructure has been less than favorable toward my commission goals. The coming years don’t look promising. There are sales people making $$$ only here 1-2 years because they were given all my opportunities. It is hard to leave this company - it has been great until now with the changes. I have a very strong job offer elsewhere - but worried about non compete.

Hey everyone! I need some advice. I’ve accepted an offer for a new job, but I’m in a bit of a rush to get out of the position I’m working right now. I start the new job July 18. My job now doesn’t care about their employees, and it’s a health risk for my family and I due to unsafe COVID policies (i.e. forcing you to come in even if you’re sick, making you use PTO for COVID even if working from home, etc). Is there anything short term I can do until July? Or should I stay until then?
