I think he or she means a masters in MIS (probably from a program offered by a reputable b school). That’s what I did and so far so good! Same network as the b school and I’m working in an IT strategy role.

I usually describe what I did as a sort of technology MBA, since it was all about aligning a company’s IT strategy with their overall business model and future goals.

What do you do now Op? There is alway strategy as part of implementation too

I'm not too sure I understand what IT strategy means? In my opinion the word strategy is very abused.

Ok got it. Pwc1 makes more sense. Ok so in that case, I'm not sure if an MBA is going to help. We don't have too many courses in business school that looks at the next level down. I think you only get that through work experience for the most part.

MBA

MBA is you want MBB

Mba

MBA probably just for the looks. Personal opinion is that neither are going to teach you anything actually useful, and that you’d be better off using the years spent in school working on projects related to those areas you would want to pursue post b-school/masters.

For example, I work in implementation, so if I were you I’d try to get on roadmap type work/“strategy” stuff within my practice. At the same time I’d be reaching out to people in IT Strategy groups and networking some.

Have an MIS degree myself.

An MBA helps. However it won't be useful for IT strategy.

Both

Bro, not spending for both. It’s one or the other. After that, done with academics for the rest of my life.

@op. Go get an mba and crush all the haters on your way to the top. Fyi...go to a case based school. They are the most applicable

Seeking advice: I’m currently a Y1 manager in Deloitte’s Strategy OP (~7 years consulting experience), and am interested in either FAANG or PE/VC. I do not have an MBA (but currently studying for GMAT for PT/EMBA). What would be best (and why): 1) target the SC-equivalent roles at the target companies (assuming PT/EMBA MBA pay support, peers would be pursuing MBA, lower learning curve, maybe less comp); or 2) go for M-equivalent (assuming MBA isn’t supported, high learning curve, comp compares)?
