Need some suggestions. I want to start savings for my child - education and otherwise. What are the best investments that I can do long term and interest or benefits I can get? His first birthday will be in August so I am thinking it will be a gift from his parents. What should we do. I am looking at good sum from 50-100k to start

Put some in a 529 account. Most states have decent investment options, but check yours. The earnings grow tax free and it's not taxed on withdrawal if used for education.

Some don't like that it's locked to education, but that's the best gift you could give. Even if your kid gets scholarships, the $ can go to living expenses or grad school. Or transfer to someone else, if (god forbid) child can't go to higher ed for some reason.

Hi All! I am currently seeking a remote HR Generalist role. I have a broad range of experience over ~5yrs at a 500 person global tech company. Most relevant projects/programs include developing and leading global CSR, well-being, culture/engagement initiatives, event management, LMS admin, 1yr handling US health/401k benefits, solo office manager for 3 US offices, + 2yrs as AR Specialist (all overlapped). Looking to dive fully into HR, would love to connect or can share my resume. TIA!

Perspective requested.
10 mths ago i was talking to an acquaintance (lives in IN, same age late 20s) and they were having a baby. I expressed my congratulations and during the convo said something like, ‘…here i can’t bring myself to adopt a pup and you’re prepared for such a big responsibility’. Everything’s cool.
Present: (randomly) they remind me of this and say they understood my intent but want to teach me that I was culturally inappropriate.
Thoughts?

Anyone else feel obligated to take family/friend referrals to healthcare providers? My brother is a dentist and, in light of some work I need done, said "hey! Go to so-and-so at such-and-such. He's a friend and really great." And I'm sure he IS really great, but I love my dentist and don't feel a need to switch. But my brother has already told his friend to expect me.

Hello HR folks. Overheard a conversation at work and am curious what is the norm.
If an employee goes out on FMLA, obviously the benefits person sends them the STD, FMLA paperwork etc. But is it the maagers responsibility to maintain communication with the person out on leave and to get a timeline on their return or would that be the benefits team? Or maybe the HRBP?

Looking at exits into pharma and biotech. Have an opp at a biotech at the SM level. Total comp excluding equity is around $190k; RSUs vest over 4 years with annual refreshers, so first year equity would be around $6,200 and it would go up by $6,200 each of the next 3 years, plus whatever base bump I get. Very good benefits package.

They envision 2-3 years before I jump either to AD or right to D. Solid opp? Or hold out to go straight to director level?

I held a salary position with my previous and recently departed. They reached out to me stating they have over paid me a couple hours because the off-boarding HR representative failed to dismiss me in their system. They said that when my final paycheck comes that I would need to write them a check for what is owed and mail it to them. What do I owe them legally? I am out of the country for a little while and honestly don’t want to go through the hassle to do this work to fix their mistake.
