HCOL (Boston) CPA with six years of big 4 experience and 1.5 years industry as accounting manager. Leaving a smaller private equity firm for a considerably larger one and they are asking for my expectations. I am not even sure what true market rate is so not sure where to start. Currently around 130k base with 30% in bonus - about ~180k all in. I am slated to receive a salary adjustment next week at current firm to bring me to market but need to respond to new company ASAP. I'm a B4 Advisory/Consulting Director. I know for a fact I will never make Partner, but I'm well regarded and in my role feel zero up or out pressure. I make very good, but not spectacular money. I work hard but it is eminently manageable. It's a really good gig and I like what I do but sometimes I feel restless.

It seems most people who work in B4 see consulting as the best area to transition to. What are the downsides to it, besides constant travel? Also is it hard to internal transfer over to it in B4?

Total investment newbie - should I put $1000 towards Fidelity 500 index fund?

What is a reasonable amount to accept to settle a case with undisputed liability? Let’s say for example potential damages are realistically $100k-1M. Let’s say cost of defense is $200k.
