I only wear Allen Edmonds.... they're so good sometimes I prefer to wear them over sneakers

What a fucking weird thing for a client to say.

If you can't afford AE Johnston and Murphy have a really well made shoe that is almost an exact replica.

like

Hit up shoebank.com if AE at full price is too spendy for you. Agree with the others that your first pair should be black cap-for oxfords. I have the strand in walnut too, but it's a little flashy for some investment banking types. I once had a client tell me that if he could recognize my shoes under the stall, my shoes weren't conservative enough.

like

Allen Edmonds - I love the strand oxfords in walnut

If you really want to splurge , I like Aldens

Allen Edmonds all the way. Worth the money. If you happen to still have a student ID on hand you can get a student discount. Shoes, belt, and show trees (a must) for $350. I doubt they care if it's still valid.

like

Ferragamo if AE don't quite fit right, or Cole haan if you want to spend <200

like

What color shade and "model" is best? ^ are those over the top or just right for our level?

Do these shoes ever go on sale? Any tips for finding the best price?

Gordon Rush

Get the AE Park Avenues.

They periodically have sales for factory seconds and clearance sales for Allen edmunds. I have wide feet so I've been ordering on sale, experiencing pinched feet, and returning them to the store. Someday, I'll order wide enough shoes on sale to keep them.

Any color shade recommendations?

Black first, then whatever you want. The Oxblood looks great with light gray and any shade of blue suit.

Also check out Meermin, Loake, and Carmina if you're looking for something a little sleeker than AE's American ass round toe lasts

I'm a B4 Advisory/Consulting Director. I know for a fact I will never make Partner, but I'm well regarded and in my role feel zero up or out pressure. I make very good, but not spectacular money. I work hard but it is eminently manageable. It's a really good gig and I like what I do but sometimes I feel restless.

I received an offers for a corporate finance position in industry (not FAANG, smaller companies) from what I can tell from research they have filed GC petitions previously but not a lot... would it be safer to just stick around big 4 and get GC and then try to leave to industry...? Those with au pairs, will/would you bring on someone new right now/in a few months? Ours leaves in April and Im going to give birth to our second kid in Feb.
