Do you need to be downtown? You can get the same uptown no problem
I just like to be downtown haha. Closer to my fav restaurants, bars, things I like to do. I like to live near things I like verse commuting to them

Cast a wider net and accept you won't be able to walk to work.

That’s why I live downtown. Get in line! 😂

Low supply, high demand, and generally expensive rents downtown.
5k for a 2 bedroom is going to be very tough downtown if you’re looking for certain quality… either downgrade to 1 bedroom, lower your standards, or go uptown for the 2 bedroom (and accept that even that may not pass your quality test, depending on what you’re looking for). It’s so frustrating but something’s gotta give.
You can easily find that in Brooklyn. You’ll get much more space and better neighborhoods IMO
I’m going to get killed for this, but what about JC in the Paulus Hook area? I’ve lived there for 7 years and it’s so easy to get downtown via ferry if you don’t mind the ticket price. I also find JC to be a much more pleasant place to live. It’s quieter and cleaner and still has a bunch of great restaurants.

JC is a great option for anyone working downtown. The only downside is weekend PATH service. Literally the worst.
You won’t find that price in a desirable neighborhood. Try living uptown or in Brooklyn on a subway line that’ll take you easily to where you want to go. You might be able to find that in midtown East.
