Westchester county? Long Island seems like your best bet tho. Why not Long Island? Just live by a LIRR

Westchester county it is

Montclair, NJ is nice! Taxes are high though. There's a train station there that goes to the city. Direct train is about an hour if I remember correctly. Diverse. Bloomfield Ave and upper montclair have cute downtowns, not huge but nice. A lot of Brooklyn folks move out there. I like Ridgewood's downtown more but more pricey area. Good schools. Also has a train station that cuts through their downtown. I've never taken the train to the city from there so don't know the distance.

~1 hour to penn station have to transfer at secaucas

Jersey shore area. You can take the sea streak ferry into the city for work. Taxes are better than northern NJ

like

you can buy a place in the river towns in westchester and close to the train. I can help you if you’d like. I am a real estate agent on the side. DM me

Just go full remote and move out of NY state. Money goes very far outside new york. For $800k you can buy a ridiculously sized house with 2 car garage and a pool

Connecticut? Lower taxes too

We are in Stamford and might consider Greenwich in the next few years. I also lived in North Jersey (Bergen County) and would recommend.

We live in Long Island. Go to the office sometimes in Manhattan. We just book parking and drive ourselves.

When I consider a good infrastructure for kids I think of Dobbs Ferry, but have the kids first. The property tax makes more sense when you do.

I second westchester and know someone who is selling a nice house. Let me know

Jersey is nice. Someone mentioned Montclair. I would add Summit, Westfield, and Cranford in Union County. Some of the surrounding towns are nice too. Mountainside, Berkeley Heights, New Providence. Garwood is a cut town with a fantastic location with lower prices than its neighbors.

Maybe give long island a second look. I'm a minority and was dead set on not moving here but wife convinced me and I been loving it so far. Neighbors, restaurants, and parks are nice.

My fiancee actually lives there now and I really just am not a fan. We have to drive so far to get off the island and all of the traffic is always really bad and we really want to root our kids in an outdoor lifestyle with hiking and climbing and such and it's just not possible on long island. We would move further away but I really like my job and I will be in person 1-2 days a week eventually and don't mind that.

Does anyone know if Duff & Phelps (now Kroll) is work from home or in the office (Atlanta location)? What is the breakdown between time in office and WFH?

My professional life at the moment is far from ideal. I’ve been on quarantine (long story, but a good one) for the last seven years. Royalties from my books don’t pay the bills. My entrepreneurial pursuits remain hampered. For the interim, I’ve been looking for a remote opportunity where I can leverage my skills in marketing, sales, social media, and elsewhere for a decent sum. I have a social media presence which, in recent years, reached millions. There has to be something exciting I can do.

I think I could wfh on a full-time basis. I've got a great set-up, spend zero time commuting, work a lot, and still get plenty of sleep. Most importantly, I finally got my Nespresso all set up.

Anyone find it suspect when some Partners throw around "I'm sure we all would prefer to be in person..." type things? Like do you hate your family or something? Maybe I'm getting to used to remote work 😬

I went back to the office this month (3/4 days per week) and it’s been a positive experience. Plus it seems that some partners who are going in appreciated it. But the office is a 15 min drive away for me. Some people need to commute an hour plus to be there. Will they be at a disadvantage if they actually try to take advantage of hybrid WFH in the future?
