Get yourself staffed on something else. You will never be able to say no to an extension if you’re rolling off to the bench.

like

Staff aug role, 2 hour commute each way, not learnings/growing, no team dynamic, etc.

like

I have other project options - MD and manager on current project are backing me into a corner though to extend. Saying I will “threaten client relationships”. I’ve expressed desire to leave months ago and stated my reasons

like

This is why we see turnover in our industry. All the best OP

like

I was in the same situation, been on the client for 17 months after it initially being a 6-8 month engagement. I just accepted an offer elsewhere, because there was no coming off this project

like

Very difficult to nagivate situtation. Best thing is to make sure you concelor knows and then look for another project. You cant sit on the bench when there is work sold for you, but can switch from project A to B if there is a reason (e.g. B is in an industry you like, has development opportunities you need etc)

like

Best way is to a find another project and have the MD of the new project support your roll off. You would have to drive the transition plan and take initiative to find a replacement for you. If that still does not work, I would start looking elsewhere considering it is staff augmentation you on. A lot of firms are hiring right now (Big 4/boutique) Unfortunately it’s looked down upon to a leave a project without anything lined up! Start reaching out in your firm, best of luck! You can do this OP. Give yourself a timeline of things do not work in your favor at ACN by a certain date, push to resign and jump ship or you ll be going in circles without results.

like

The nature of the role is to do sys admin work (I was hired into MC lol). Since then have tried to advise on process etc, but I genuinely hate the role and drag my feet every morning

like

Talk to your career counselor and have them back your transition out and talk to project leadership. If you asked them to let you go and they won’t time to escalate to those who are their peers/supervisors to get them to stop being stupid

Have never met the Partner, all of sudden now we’re going to dinner. I feel like I’m being cornered and essentially threatened into saying yes to an extension

like

Haha the same thing happened to me. Partner took me out to “dinner” and said I am doing “really well” and would like me to stay on the account. Was on a staff augmentation gig at ACN and forced an extension even though I found another project to staff me. Couldn’t say “No”. I ended up taking another offer. Enjoyed my time at ACN, but wasn’t growing in the area I wanted to. Now really enjoying my work at my boutique firm. You don’t have to leave the firm, but look around and stay positive as much as possible. Try to find another project and hark lock it in on my scheduling. Be careful once your leads find out you are reaching out to other roles, it could make things worse. Know exactly what you are going through, hang in there! Wish you the best

like

This worked for me: 1) Plan a vacation - something extended like 3 weeks minimum. This forces them to backfill your position 2) Before you go on vacation try hard to get staffed elsewhere. A verbal agreement from another project works 3) Return from vacation, update TFS with new role. Let the PM’s from both projects resolve the staffing on their own. But by this time the person that they used to backfill you on project 1 should make it easier to transition Yes it sucks that you have to use your PTO to manipulate your way out of a project but odds are you need the time away anyway to destress

like

You really have to do what’s best for you. If you’ve already told your CC etc. that you are considering leaving if you aren’t off this project you’ve done your due diligence. Time to figure out other opportunities

like

@Op - Yes. But keep in mind that you may not get the promo even if you do stay. Request feedback RIGHT NOW from the Parters/Managers that are pressuring you to stay. Use this as YOUR leverage. Glowing reviews and support for promotion or you bounce. Obviously with a little more tact than that. “I’d like to stay but I’m afraid that devoting myself to one project will limit my ability to grow and learn within Accenture. If there were some way to ensure both while on this project, I’d be more comfortable with the extension but right now I don’t know if it’s the best course of action for my long term goals here...” If they really want you, they better start stepping the fuck up.

like

This happens all the time to top performers unfortunately. Say yes to the extension, but negotiate your terms that you are to roll off at the end of the extension and that they are to backfill you if you do it. Offer to work alongside your backfill for the extension to mitigate risk. Clients get attached to good people as PPDs do too. If you want to stay at your firm sometimes the work you do will be crappy to build the goodwill you need to get ahead in your career. Get another PPD that you’re close with to have a conversation about your career with the PPD on your current project. I was in the same situation and having someone at the PPD level in your corner can make your roll off easier but you’ll likely need to be a team player during the extension for it

like

@A2, asked for feedback and have received great verbal feedback, but SM isn’t putting it in writing just yet..... @D2 this is the 3rd time I’m bring extended....so I’ve given them a long leash. I feel like I’ll never be respected or heard if I always submit What a dilemma

like

I have another project (actually multiple) that are going to be ready to staff in a few weeks, in which I can set up a transition for another person

Make a business case for why the new project is a better fit or use of your skills.

I’m worried if I turn down the extension, even though I’ve done amazing work, leadership will give me a poor review. It’s funny though, reason im being extended is because my work to client is “so good” they want me and only me

I’m up for promo for mid-year...

Looking for advice. I am new to the firm and on my second engagement. The manager that I am working with is the most negative person that I've ever met; he constantly complains about the firm, the project, clients etc and never appreciates any efforts. I am also worried that he will give a negative feedback on me as this is his behavioural pattern.
