I’ll mark up the full time pay by a reasonable factor and prorate it to a daily pay
Well yeah, but what's a reasonable mark up?
Daily salary * 1.5 (to account for tax hit, healthcare costs, and no bonus) divided by 0.6 (to account for utilization and time between gigs).
Adjust based on your circumstances but 2-3x salary is reasonable.
A temp agency will typically charge 30-40% above cost as their margin to run the business + a bit of profit. If you are selling consulting services, I agree with at least 2X salary. Perhaps another way to look at this is many boutique firms (non-strategy) charge $80-$150 based on expertise needed by the client, level of experience desired, etc. I don’t see $200/hr as expensive if you have a nice value prop. I’d guess Big 4 these days try to avg. ~ $300/hr blended.
