Frankly, that's pretty good comp for your boss and it's nothing to sneeze at, especially given how statistically few people in consulting make it to that level of comp.

like

KPMG must have a great recruiting department to convince someone to even consider this

Bring you in as an SA? Naw that move doesn’t make much sense.

like

You aren’t going to make $220k base until you hit Director which won’t be for at least 3 or 4 years. I don’t see the value in the move.

likehelpful

May be there’s something else to the story. Really doesn’t add up.

Don't do it. You are making more than you would as an SA and will continue to make more in your current role until/if you become Partner. If you model out the time it takes to get that far, the sum of the missed income will be huge. You COULD make more as partner if you are noticeably above average at sales, but that is risky.

KPMG tho? 🙄

likefunny

No way you should even consider that. $220k base is director-level comp at KPMG and it will take a minimum of 4 years to get to director (probably more like 5-6). You’d come in at a max of $130k as an SA - that’s a ton of lost income.

like

DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER THIS OFFER.

like

Why are they bringing you in at a Senior? 220k higher than most very experienced managers at K.

like

That’s 450k TC from your boss - wondering how that relates to avg kpmg comp at higher levels

I humbly think you can do much better than a SA role @ kpmg

Hard pass. Apply to a different consultancy if you want to get into consulting.

All, appreciate the feedback. After all is said and done, this sounds crazy and I won’t be taking this path. I also felt some sociopathic tendencies with some of the KPMG interviewers, downplaying those below them, and putting themselves on a pedestal. For one, I interviewed initially with a D. Sounded like a great guy, I could work with him well. Now the MDs came in, and this is where it got interesting. First MD, introduces himself to me as a P, and says that your previous interview was with an M (lol). Never made eye contact via video either which was odd indeed, especially for a “leader” of the firm. Regardless, on to better roles out there.

How/why would any same person consider such a move? Makes ZERO sense ..... are you kidding me ? You will REGRET this move if you pull the trigger 💯

like

This move makes no sense. You are taking day one a roughly 100k paycut. You need a director role just to get back to current salary- easily 5 years.

Please don’t make this mistake.

I should clarify. I used be at a firm but I’ve left for an Elon musk company.

like

If you have been working with Musk level people you will be dealing with less talented people, will be asked as a senior to do joke level work. Kpmg didn’t pay bonuses last year....

Keep on lookin’

Pass. I assume you'll get your boss's role before 59

Nope

Does anyone else find it difficult to ask for time off? I haven’t taken a “vacation day” since February, billed 185+ hour months consistently through the pandemic (exceeded hours for 2020 bonus eligibility), and am feeling pretty burnt out. It’s hard because other associates in my department haven’t really taken any time off either (or it has been a day or two sporadically). Would really love to take some days over Christmas to recharge but I’m nervous about perception.
