Negotiating even before a final offer. Need help. Currently at 161k as a Sr. Consultant and the industry role, while is a perfect job profile for me, is more like a Sr. Analyst / individual contributor role. I was a manager before and move to consulting for more challenge and pay. Industry feels a better fit now since I am considering to start a family. Relocation and sign on bonus maybe in play. Company has filed for IPO so equity might not be at my level.

Feel like I would be taking... Cont.

You didn’t mention what they offered you so we don’t know the current raise %

Unless you hate your current role or this sets you up for a larger pay day later I’d be out. Your current comp is definitely high end for D though.

I’m actually Interested what consulting practice you are in making 161 as a senior….

What's the fuss with 160k base as an SC? I came from the industry (not a home grown consultant), have masters and have worked 5 years before deciding to give consulting a shot. 160k isn't overpaid if you know what it takes to be a high performer or even a good negotiator. I am in fact right in the middle of the SC range at D for a 2nd year SC.

Feel like I would be taking a back seat if I accept anything less than 20% raise in the base. Is that asking too much? What all can I negotiate? Please help

It may be asking for too much if you’re already on the top end of the senior consultant salary band and you’re coming in for an individual contributor role in industry which generally has lower salary bands to begin with.

Couldn’t get promoted to manager?

It's just been a year at D. I am on the early promotion path.

Buddy, you gotta work on your writing and communication. There’s barely any relevant info here.

So you make 161k now and I see in one reply that they offered you 160-165? What about bonus? Also filing for IPO doesn’t prevent them from giving out equity, have they said no or are you assuming?

You need to focus on TC and not just base in my opinion. FWIW, I took a decrease in base salary from 150 to 140 when moving to tech from consulting in an IC role but my TC still increased 25% because of 20% bonus and RSU package.

Thank you, I will work on my communication!

And appreciate the feedback. I get that TC is the overall picture and not just the base. I have made money on RSU before too but told it's not a part of the package for this role. Tbh, haven't gotten the full offer yet and was given the base range from the recruiter.

I know efforts like this can rub people the wrong way, so I just wanna be careful before deploying them. Anyone who works there or knows them able to comment on this?

I’ve been on the bench with J1 for about 3 months. I was worried that because I couldn’t find another project, I would get laid off so I found J2, which pays more, is very meeting heavy, but I really like. I’ve kept J1 because I’m still on the bench doing absolutely nothing and getting paid. Thinking about looking for a role on a project with J1 that’s not along my career path but will allow for me to do work with no calls so that I can manage both jobs. Does anyone have experience or advice?
