Negotiating tips at year-end review for getting an above-average raise? Or do numbers speak for themselves?

My general position is that you should be able to point at your numbers to dictate your salary, especially if you’re in a high demand area such as construction where you won’t find it difficult to leave for the money you’re demanding or more. It may be difficult if you’re new to the firm but otherwise if you’re good at your job, you’ll get paid what you’re worth because good talent that you know you can work with is hard to find. However, be reasonable and understand you also need to consider the additional costs of your salary including Super (401k) and general costs such as license registration etc. I know this is to be absorbed by the business, but it also provides you grounding for your demands. My general take is look at your turnover, divide by 3, take 1/3 as your entitlement and deduct 20k for costs and then shop around to see what you may be offered elsewhere. As an example, I am forecasting to hit 520k for this financial year. I’ll be proposing a salary base increase to $140k before Super which is in my opinion, a balance of me being paid my worth and at the same time being reasonable knowing I will struggle to get more than that anywhere else at a lateral. The key to any salary negotiation is being reasonable.

Would depend on where you are located. I’m in Aus which is a little different and we don’t get paid the same as our American counterparts. If you’re in Aus (1) Those are very good numbers for an associate (either you’re working to death or your firm charges like a wounded bull) (2) I’d say you should probably be on a base of $150k min. Don’t know any associates in Aus over the 150-160k mark. America different story and probably best to get advice from somebody there.

How do I prove to a non-developer boss that I'm a good developer? I'm underpaid but my last raise was a huge jump because I was an apprentice before so was making minimum wage. So I'm afraid to rush things, but I know my work is above average, just not sure how to demonstrate that (It's just me and one other guy on the dev team at my agency).

I’m in audit looking to be promoted to senior in July. Wondering if there’s any reason to stay at my firm for that promotion if my goal is to get away from auditing. Thinking I might end up in advisory or even pivot farther away from accounting in general. Does having that senior title on my resume matter?

Any folks here ever take “garden leave” or cooling off leave where your company pays your a salary during the non compete period? If so, can you literally just quit the job and they still have to pay you? Offer I have says if either the company terminates me for cause or I voluntary leave, I am subject to the non compete and will get garden leave.
