What are the downsides to buying real estate vs continuing to rent?

I have rented my whole and am considering buying a condo. I understand there are additional costs like property taxes, HOA fees, etc. but it seems like I would be building equity that otherwise would be rent money that gets thrown away. I'm in the UK and the seasonal depression is really starting to hit. I've had serious depression in the past and felt 'well' for the first time in a long time this year. I took a day off work as 'flu' last week to recharge but it didn't work. I came off an (unrelated) PIP about a month ago and now I'm getting nothing done. I can't focus, I just want to lay in bed. Gym routine has gone out the window, I don't have my old network of people for times like this. I dont know what to do

Getting fired from a job sucks. Constantly interviewing for jobs sucks. Sucks even more when the unemployment office in your state sucks. It always sucks to be anxious about the future. I just feel like sleeping most days unless I have something urgent to tackle.

Today I worked an extra 2.5 hours from home just so tomorrow’s workload and anxiety is bearable. I am my own worst enemy... or am I? 🙃
