It all depends: if you can get the recruiter to get coffee with you later on and continue the relationship and land the job that’s an alternative I got some friends that did that and ended up in Amex and Morgan S. But that didn’t work for me I just started applying and got some offers and I declined till I got the one I wanted.
Recruiters know you are connecting with them for referrals so try and meet up with them and show why you are different or what sets you apart.

They want to place you so they will do their best to get you placed in a job. You will have access to more job opportunities. The recruiter can point out specialized skills you have that can help you get the job you want. And you stay in the job search database with a recruiter.
Absolutely. There are so many benefits to it. They can help you tips for applying even not just for their company. Recruiters also look to network with candidates because that's their job. Network with anyone else as much as possible especially when building your career.
In my opinion, it never hurts to network. I have met so many great people in my life just from networking and sometimes those contacts come in handly later down the road. I would network as much as you can.
