Never fully understood all the hype about Big 4 consulting before joining a Big 4 firm. I still don't after nearly 5 years in. Lookin' to bail. What does everyone else wish they were doing instead?

Look, let’s all be honest. Big 4 pays well and looks good on the resume but anyone who grew up wanting to work for a massive global accounting firm is clearly missing some imagination points. Every day we wake up we either choose to do our personal deal with the devil and make good money and great perks for doing this job or we quit and do something we’re passionate about. I’m in too deep at this point and like the cash and perks but if you’re not, get the hell out and go do something that fills your heart with joy every morning rather than making more slides for ingrates. If that’s owning a taco truck, a tech company or mowing lawns, knock yourself out. And if your dream is Big 4, good luck to you!

It’s all about following work where you can make a difference. For me it’s helping people and moving society forward, and I feel like I can make an impact in my line of work within a career in human capital consulting. It’s important we help clients ensure they treat their employees like people, not numbers on a balance sheet. D talks a lot about “the social enterprise” and that’s something that resonates with how I believe organizations should operate (e.g. equal prioritization of benefiting society vs making profits)

Actually being serious. Tacos are cheap, easy to make en masse, and if a Texan like me were to actually deploy a taco truck to such Mexican food wastelands as the northeast or Midwest, we could probably reach amazon-levels of revenue in 2 years. Y’alls food sucks.

To all the entitled people here, yes Big 4 consulting is considered prestigious in the grand scheme of things by normal people who grew up modestly and went to their local state school who likely didn’t even know what consulting was until mid college and other more “elite “ firm didn’t recruit there ..... sometimes the lack of awareness outside of our consulting prestige-whore bubble astounds me

Was there really hype out there? Could see that if you were a tax or accountant

I am planning to do masters in cybersecurity . I migrated from India where I did my under grad. 35 M working as M at Big 4 with 12 YOE and making 170k. I feel doing a masters from US will add to my knowledge and some brand value to my education space in my resume . Any good school recommendations for online masters ? Was thinking between CMU , Berkeley , Georgie tech . Would prefer something that doesn’t need GMAT, less than 100k total tution and good brand name . Thank you. !!!
