In seriousness though, treat yourself as a "cost center" and try to make life easier for workstreams. This means pre populate stuff for them and get their validation rather than asking them to make new slides, be super aware of everything going on as that is your USP and unique vantage point, find ways to cut the red tape where possible but at the same time be ready to set some non-compliant folks straight. And yes, make everything look pretty. And speak up in meetings.

Wax my car, stain my fence, and don't get a PMP. Leverage materials and have a knowledge sharing session with a PMO mr. miyagi and they can teach you the ways. Documentation/process for the sake of is a waste but stakeholder management, communication, and a streamlined cadence for risk/issue identification and triage is critical. Best of luck Daniel-son ⛩

Make everything look pretty would be a good start

Be realistic. Most folks hate PMO because they often ask the SMEs and others working on the project for completely unnecessary tasks.

Figure out how to "put on your leads hat" what would they want done or reviewed on deliverables. Anything you can do that saves them time or they trust you to do to make their lives easier is a big win. An an analyst I edited and rewrote updates for managers before my lead reviewed the materials. Also figure out their presentation pet peeves to ensure you correct them. F7 is your best friend and learn to take kick ass notes live. On top of all the great wisdom from D1. Find a mentor like them that will help you see value in your role on your project.

I am 9 months pregnant and my firm offers 16 weeks maternity leave. Well, it just so happens that I was offered a job at a new firm, and they are flexible with start date but do not provide maternity leave (understandable since I don't even work there yet). Is it possible to accept the new job with a January start date, but not tell my current firm until a normal notice period ends, so I can keep mat leave? No payback requirements or anything. Would they know somehow?

I hope this administration implements Federal parental leave. I don't understand how and why we still tout ourselves as the greatest country in the world, and we don't even have basic paid parental leave.

Can anyone share their experience with having a child with a congestive heart failure? My child is having trouble gaining weight as a result (1lb a month at most) She's five months old and has a large ASD and smaller VSD. We are being monitored by a ped cardio. She'll need surgery in the future but they aren't sure when as she's fine overall. Can any of you share how u helped your child thru this? How did surgery go etc? I'm just so stressed and terrified about it all.

Our nanny takes my 7 month old out for one, sometimes 2, long walks every day (weather permitting). Love the idea of fresh air every day but its often for several hours at a time and he always returns home crying bc she's pushed him to his limit between feedings. She brushes it off saying hes just fussy which kind of irks me. Im also concerned that he's spending too much time strapped in a stroller. Is it reasonable to ask her to take shorter walks? Am I overreacting?

Feeling like my firm has a very outdated parental leave policy (and none of the women partners have children)! What is the parental leave policy at your firm? Please include: (1) size of firm; (2) location of firm (city, state); (3) how many paid weeks off from firm (not state/fed benefits); (4) other policies such as ramp up/down time, etc.

Currently talking to recruiters for a new job and it is honestly such a turnoff when they talk too much about having a strong company culture and/or talking about making sure I'm a good fit culturally. For me that borders on culty and is a red flag. I would much rather hear from a recruiter that a workplace's "culture" is that they are accepting of all cultures, diversity, and personality types.
