About to join KPMG Lighthouse in a couple weeks. Received an email about a KPMG lakehouse on campus event in Orlando. I think it is supposed to be an orientation event. With Omicron looming and unvaxxed toddlers at home, I am wondering if I can say NO to this travel. Any KPMG folks who know if this is avoidable and not going to put me in bad light?

Presenting creative, justifying their thinking and being involved in the discussion that follows with client is such an important part of the growth process for creatives. I always prefer to let my teams present. I’m simply there for support and color (or if things go off the rails).
My process as well.
Let the team present. If they are not client ready, rehearse with them, as above, your job is to highlight your awesome team and save them if things go pear shaped
My policy:
Presentation to clients of the agency: I let the team do it, I’m there for support and to take the lead in case of tricky question or if something goes wrong.
Pitch: I always do the presentation.
Part of the job is to train the teams to present, especially junior/mid.

You know how ’90s rap groups would take turns but there was always one “main” rapper? That’s you.
“Just remember team, in this situation, I’m RZA. Now let’s get it.”
If they’re capable always have them present to client. Set things up for them with a little preamble and then let them have ownership. If they aren’t ready - at least let them practice by presenting internally a few times to the full team. But always include them in client calls if you want to get the best out of them.
I wish Creative Directors in real life follow this knowledge.

The most important thing is to sell and make the best work possible, and if letting an inexperieced junior team present could hamper that, don't do it.
Try to let teams present, but only after they test drive their presentation with you a few times.

If circumstances and client situations allow, I would say let your team present and be there as a support if things go astray. Your designers put a lot of effort to deliver, they will feel appreciated if you let them speak about their work. They will respect you and will be grateful for the opportunity.
It’s always best to have more voices in a meeting. I usually set the work up, ideally getting the clients informed and inspired, the let the team creative team present their scripts. Then I’m free to jump in with more contest or if things start going south.
Of course there are exceptions. Sometimes you know a meeting will be testy so it’s best the CD take charge from the get go. Or a pitch that needs to be spot on, and not a time to work out presentation kinks.
