New client is 3.5 hours away driving (NJ to DC). Can't decide between driving, Amtrak or flying. Only 4 weeks of travel so I guess flying wouldn't benefit much from losing out on points.

If you take Amtrak often enough you might get upgraded to first class.

I take Amtrak weekly from WAS To NYP. It is so much easier than flying. No hassles -- show up, get on train, show your ticket then enjoy the ride.

like

Not sure, someone posted they got upgraded on a 5 week project.

On the train you can work on infographics!

Will probably do Amtrak then. Acela is only 30 minutes faster than regular trains.

Amtrak is a delight for this journey. Beer, even the cheap seats are bigger than first class, bring whatever, no tsa strip search, no airports, no bullshit cab rides in traffic to an airport

like

@Op: The price difference to save 30-minutes isn't worth it. Plus, business class on Amtrak's NE Regional gets complimentary non-alcoholic beverages. 🙃

like

You'll probably have to Amtrak it to DC Union Station and take the metro to Arlington

like

Uber it from union station to Arlington

like

how often do you have to take Amtrak for that to happen?

^SC1. I am cracking up.

I've been told Amtrak is the best way to get to D.C. from NJ. Flying ends up being a hassle since the flight is short but you still have to deal with check-in/security.

Acela is the way to go, did it for years...hassle free, big comfy seats, rarely any delays. You don't get upgraded to first, but you can upgrade yourself using passes that they give you when you hit certain tiers and by purchasing passes with points.

Amtrak

Just did this route for 6 months.. Acela for sure.

Is there a rewards program or anything to sign up for before?

Take Acela. It's a much nicer (and safer) train than the traditional Amtrak

Coming to complain about upstairs construction and maybe you guys will just tell me to suck it up. But is there anything I can do about: 1) construction that was supposed to only be 1 week going on week 3, 2) debris from the construction coming into my apt from various access points (prob due to shoddy construct. from before), 3) shutting off my water without notice, and 4) extremely loud sanding/flooring work that prohibits me from being able to do my job, take any calls, etc. (I WFH).

Feel like I’ve been seeing a lot of posts about splitting chores recently / managing house work and I want to make a plug for an app I found recently called Sweepy! You can set up the tasks that you want to do together and complete them as a household - tasks can have different amounts of “effort points” and different recurrences, and household members sign up to do different amounts of work (app will tell you if it’s not enough to complete all the tasks on your list).
