By the way, nothing bad happened. Learned this by running an experiment where I let a less important deliverable run on its own and then presented a final product and a more important deliverable where leaders involved step by step. World of a difference

That’s a good lesson. People like stuff they’re familiar with (on many levels). A familiar deliverable will always be better received than an unfamiliar one, even if the unfamiliar one is of better quality.
Honestly, to an extent I treat my leadership similar to how I treat my clients. I see them as ‘client 0.1’. And huge part of that is taking them for the ride. Kudos to you for running a controlled experiment and proving it empirically 😂
