New first year here (aka started three weeks ago) and my senior that I’ve been working with primarily has been so, so nice. I even messed something up (not a huge deal, but definitely still an inconvenience) and she just said no worries, we will figure it out that’s my bad for missing it when reviewing. Just wanted to express a general appreciation for everyone who is patient with juniors like me. Anything I can do (other than saying thanks) to express appreciation for all the help?

Treat your juniors the same when you’re the senior. Learn from your mistakes. Thank your senior for being gracious and helpful occasionally. You’re doing just fine.

I would also tell her that was really cool of you, and I really appreciate it!

The best appreciation is to learn from it and incorporate it into your practice to keep improving, IMO. I don’t mind occasional mistakes and taking the time to give feedback, of course there’s going to be mistakes, what I mind more is having to fix the same kind of mistake over and over where I feel like my feedback is just going into a void and I should stop trying to train.

Glad you are having a good experience!

I work in a firm with about 30 lawyers. Our firm primarily does civil defense work for insurance companies, employers, and some governmental entities. It feels like a betrayal of my Black friends to be silent right now. But, at the same time, being more visible could piss off clients and, as a result, piss off firm management. Have you found a way to show up for friends/family in a public way without risking the guillotine at work?

Had only one call with my TL in first two months. Few weeks later, on workday I noticed that my TL got reassigned. Contacted him and have setup regular catch-ups. He dropped a bomb that he is leaving and I will be reporting to partner. Partner is time poor and no feedback is offered. This is my first consulting role and I feel I am not receiving enough support. Few people are helping to learn the ropes but WFH has exacerbating the problem. How do I get a TL to receive pointed feedback? PwC

Hi all, How do you deal with having a good relationship with an ex-colleague, and then that person switches jobs, becomes a hiring manager, is hiring for a position you’re perfect for (experience + credentials) and then you reach out to them saying you’re interested and why it would be a good idea - and then they completely ghost you..I also sent an application via the website and got rejected. I am really always trying to help out old coworkwrs with getting jobs, but this is just frustrating 🥲

What would you do?

I was recently promoted to be a senior and I’m on this project with an acting senior and associates. The acting senior would tell everyone, including me, what to do everyday before I get the chance to. I feel like he is stepping into my boundaries. I feel uncomfortable being told by him what I have to do when I know it myself. I feel like he’s my senior instead lol.

Am I being oversensitive about this as a new senior? Or how would you address this?

Thoughts on stipulating to negligence from a plaintiff’s perspective? At first I thought it was a good idea because it obviously saves time and money and saves you from the possibility of your client receiving nothing. I practice in a contributory negligence state and my client wasn’t rear-ended she was side swiped while at a complete stop. Negligence is still fairly clear but I can envision a reality where a jury disagrees....
