For your timeframe, you should definitely not be in primarily stocks. Pick a short-term bond ETF or look into savings accounts.

We suck, only 2 miracles for us to win this game - cause one is too little
Hey I’m in the same boat here. I’ve been saving money for an MBA since 2019. I was able to grow my net worth from 8,400 in 01/2021 to 155,500 in 10/2021 with the following:
- Spend as little as possible to maximize money for investing. I do have an emergency fund that can cover 3 months worth of expenses
- Investing:
+ 80% of my money in low risk investments: S&P 500 ETF, bond ETF, TIPS - treasury inflation-protected securities, etc. I put a lot of money into VOO and VUG (large-cap stock ETFs). People may say that bond is safer but I’m comfortable with the amount of risk associated with stocks
+ 20% of my portfolio in risky bets: individual stocks (e.g., TSLA, UBER, ABNB, etc.), crypto (e.g., ETH, BTC, etc.), and leveraged ETFs (e.g., UPRO, TQQQ, SOXL, etc.)
My growth in net worth of course included monthly contribution from salary. Sorry if that wasn't clear
Can’t believe people slacking on crypto. Thought the whole young crowd was already in…
Look at some managed funds/ETFs. Alternatively do some reading into stocks etc etc. There’s a wealth of information (pun intended) on the net. Recommend sources like Bloomberg etc
Echoing CA1, specific picks to look into that I personally like are VTI (total stock market index), VUG (Vanguard Growth index), and IVV (S&P 500 index).
Not recommending that you just go out and buy those, but those are three that I’m in that carry relatively little risk, and have grown pretty well. I would encourage you to do some Googlign on strong ETF’s/Indeces that will help you diversify risk away, since you want the money in a relatively short-term.
