Backpacks are more practical and totes are more fashionable so it depends on if your goal is to look good or feel good haha. I prefer a backpack

Totes are cute but then comes the shoulder pain. Get a backpack and save the pain. This is one of the times where I’ve gone function over fashion lol

like

Especially if you get a “nice” backpack - I got a patagonia one and it’s way more comfy than a tote and still looks decently professional IMO

like

Get a cute backpack! I bought a “leather” one from target that looked a lot like the Able bags. It’s way more practical and lugging a 30 pound tote through the parking lot and up/down stairs is going to physically hurt you over time lol not worth it IMO!

like

Look professional not fashionable. You need to look like an auditor not a model

like

No, I get ya. The OP is a new hire and wants to make a good first impression. I can relate to those first, exciting days lol.

like

Tote is always more fashionable, IMO. Depends on what kind of a look you are going for.

like

No one cares. It isn’t fashion week.

like

Tumi leather backpack. Comfortable, fashionable, professionally, great quality and repair policy.

I always prefer a tote, I think it looks way better than a backpack. The only downside is that backpacks usually fit more stuff haha I had to go through a few totes to find one that fit all my stuff without issues

Get a nice Tumi backpack. Your back will appreciate you. Also as to what to wear a lot depends on the client. Going to a Midwest financial institution? More straight laced and boring professional. Going to a west coast entertainment company, can be more fun.

like

Cute backpack like Calpak.

Backpacks are easier —- I used a tote For years but will never go back! The Tumi Voyager line is sleek, feminine, holds all your stuff and worth the money!!

Agreed with what everyone says here - totes = back pain. Totally understand your concern though. I bet it depends on region. I’m in a Midwest (not Chicago) office, and people had a mix of backpacks and totes. My team had backpacks so I always had a navy Patagonia backpack. Definitely grateful lol.

My team has started ignoring my messages. I’m not sure what I did; I’ve been getting good feedback on my performance, I don’t message excessively often, and I don’t think I’ve done anything to cause social discomfort. The project is busy, but honestly workloads have been lighter than they used to be because we brought in additional resources, so that doesn’t explain the shift in communication styles. I used to feel like a useful team member but now I feel like an annoyance. What should I do?

My director sent an email to me on Monday 10am asking me to help her work on a return that needs to be delivered to the client during this weekend. It was a extremely simple return and I thought I could just work on it Tuesday. This morning at 630 am she emailed again saying she didn’t hear back from me on Monday and wanted to see if I have time for it or not. Do I need to reply an email within 24 hours during non busy season? I already feel unmotivated and this is just making me feel worse.

Seems like a lot of questions on partner comp and net worth. Here is the rule of thumb: 1) Big 4 partners make $600K to $1.5m based on seniority and practice. 2) MBB partners make $1m -3m based on seniority Typically your expenses are between $100-300k. Add Taxes to it, that’s the amount you add every year. About 6-10% return yearly on the savings. So net worth of partners are probably between $3m to $20m depending on which company and seniority, investment profile, etc. Where am I wrong?

I was interviewing for McKinsey in the defense and security industry (clearance needed) and thought I did absolutely great on the first business case. The second, however, was with a principal that had very different political views from my own (I’d done some research on her LinkedIn). The business case felt different from any others that I had studied and felt like an attempt to get political without directly doing so. I was quickly rejected following the 2nd interview. Should I try reapplying?
