New hire question - if I didn't submit expenses before that expense cut off date is there any bad consequence?

D3-I don't believe you. Why did you say that to someone new is really looking for advice?

like

OP there's no consequence. Projects like to have expenses submitted on time to help track toward their budget but it's not a big deal if you're late a week or 2. Don't worry about it

like

The actual bad consequence is you might miss out on AmEx points.

You're fired.

Must pay out of pocket and then 2x the value as punitive damages.

D2: what's the bad consequence...

D3 is right - you forfeit Amex points when an expense isn't paid within a month of being incurred. Lost a ton of points when I was waiting for a WBS. Other than that, a few weeks of sitting on expenses shouldn't be a major deal for project leadership

It's not life or death -- though it does impact accounting and budgeting. Just get in the habit of submitting your expenses on time. This kind of sloppiness is low hanging fruit when looking for reasons to get rid of people.

Just to summarize - you won't be in any major hot water for missing an expense deadline, but you will miss out on Amex points. Best policy is to do them weekly and get them in on time. And I too lost a ton of Amex points waiting for a WBS code. It sucked. In those instances, see if you can charge them to a holding code....and then once the wbs becomes available, go back and submit expenses into that code.

At a former company, they let you expense $20 for working 10+ hours in a day, but you could never use it because it would always be rejected. Recently started at a new firm, and I had a rough week last week (two 14+ hour days). New firm has a similar policy, so I asked. Was told not to submit the $20 reimbursements. Just as I was about to get frustrated, he told me I should get dinner for my wife and me. Only rule was to keep it under $100. Don't like working 14 hour days, but this was nice.

Hey guys. I have a soon to be nonprofit church struggling because they already started services (collecting offerings too against my advice) before things were set with an EIN and they gave an event already planned out and are trying to find a way to spend and collect before the things are in order. They want to know if one of their small business owners can expense and collect then consider it a donation. Is this possible? Any advice or loopholes that are Legal and will avoid issues later on?

Imagine for a moment that all strategic consulting firms in the region would have consultants work no later than 9pm. Do you think the quality of the output would decrease? Or maybe the pricing the client is willing to pay would be lower? Or perhaps nothing would happen? I am thinking whether we work long hours because it’s by now part of work approach and culture or because we need to. (Personal experience: in London for my same firm I used to work much less and the output was great…)

I get interrupted a lot at work now that we are virtual. I don't feel like this happens to everyone else in my team as much, meaning folks tend to let them talk longer. So I've reduced my contribution and talk less. But then others make the same point I'm thinking and would normally have said. So now I just look like a silent non-contributor or someone who gets interrupted a lot. Office/team culture is generally good, respectful and peaceful. How do I change this? What can I do differently?
