New homeowners here, we are getting a new roof from insurance claim due to a recent storm. We received a check, but the roofer said that's not all and once he's done, he will send the insurance company a final invoice. Is that how it works?

Shouldn’t you... ask your insurance company?

like

Typically yes. This is what they refer to as a “supplemental” Construction is a beast in itself. Code changes every so often and the insurance company is required to update the roof to code. This could be where the additional expense could come from. Then again roofers are notoriously crooked in my area. They will often use an estimating software called xactimate. This software helps inflate the invoice for essentially no extra work.

Insurance will also typically hold back depreciation that is not paid unless you actually make the repairs. You should see this in the claims paperwork.

like

That depends on your insurance coverage. Was there any deductible for wind or hurricane? Wind deductible will come into effect with any sort of wind damage while hurricane will only count if it’s classified as hurricane. Typically home insurance will have at least a 2% deductible since superstorm sandy.

If you can provide the invoice to the company for the repairs and the cost is reasonable they will pay for it minus the deductible

Ughh i had two insurance claims within two years and now Noone wants to insure my new home

2 homeowners claims in a two year period is a lot. Don’t make small claims - it’s not worth it.

My Havanese puppy seems to accidentally puke / have loose stools at least once a week. No problems prior to those one of those incidents and she seems active and normal right after that as well. Any tips to improve her digestive health. Thank you! 🙏🏻

Health question: Does anyone else suffer from nerve pain in their butt/hips from sitting all day? My research tells me it’s piriformis pain. It means my sit bones are irritating my butt muscle, which irritates my sciatic nerve. It can be excruciating and hurt even when I stand. I bought a fancy seat cushion for my office chair, and I have a standing desk. Nothing helps. The pain has been around for about a month. Anyone else?? What did you do?

About to get an offer to move to a health agency. Anyone else make that move? How was it? I’ve lost major interest in the hustle glorified at traditional agencies, and have a fam so need better WLB. Realizing regular agencies aren’t made to work around family life…more like the other way around. Even when setting boundaries you get comments and pressure…working til midnight every night to “make up” for having to log off between 6 and 9 every night isn’t a good balance for me.

I’ve put on about 20 lbs during covid lockdowns and haven’t lost a pound since. My SO loves me but (and I agree) has always been big about us keeping appearance and weight in check, first for our health but also for overall attraction. His take is if a disease somehow made me put on weight there’s not a comment he would make but in this case it’s really bad exercise and diet habits. I don’t disagree but I’ve never been so far from my target weight that I just don’t know where and how (cont)

I know we all love the work from home (or do we?) but does anyone actually miss traveling for their consulting engagements and all the fun that goes along with it? The late nights at the office then the bar and random hookups and excitement and all that? Sure it’s a grind but I think I actually miss it too. Maybe I just miss seeing people at work or seeing people at all. I wonder if we’ll ever get back to that.

I was laid off from a resource management role, working with employees approaching or on the bench, working with managers to staff projects, and support functions like report creation, scheduling, etc. Roles like this are few and many large consulting firms have frozen internal hiring. Do you think it would be beneficial to get a SHRM cert? Would that help get a "talent related" HR role? Worth the money? I have a background in recruitment as well.
